    Junior's at Wit's end
TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR HATTON CLASH
    By Steve Royce, sundaymirror.co.uk 02/09/2007

Junior Witter knows time is running out for the showdown with Ricky Hatton that he has been chasing for nearly five years.

On Friday Witter defends his WBC light-welterweight title against brilliant American Vivian Harris in Doncaster, but it is Hatton he is still dreaming of.

"In my opinion Harris is one of the best at my weight in the world and I can't take my eye off this fight," said Witter. "But every single day I think of Hatton because that's the fight I've wanted for far too many years.

"I've done everything that's been asked of me in the last few years but I still feel I'm no closer to getting him in the ring. As the world champion I now have options but if I put my hand on my heart I'd still prefer Hatton in the ring to anybody else."

Next Friday's showdown at the Doncaster Dome will not be easy for the Sheffield-based fighter. Harris has lost just twice in 31 fights and held the WBA version of the title until 2005.

"Witter is a good fighter, so is Hatton, but I truly believe I bring something extra to the table," said Harris. "I know how Witter feels because I was ignored by other world champions for a long time until I got my shot at the title.

"This is just the latest chance to show what I can do and then I'm also going looking for Hatton."

Witter is seriously considering a future without a Hatton fight and has now set his sights on IBF champion Paulie Malignaggi and Welshman Gavin Rees, the new WBA champion.

Witter added: "If it proves impossible to get Ricky to the table there's always the chance of a unification fight against Malignaggi in Madison Square Garden.

"I don't care where I fight so fighting in front of his home-town fans would not be a problem - and the same goes for Gavin.

"It's a great time to be a light-welterweight and a great time to be a British world champion at the weight, and that's why it makes sense for Hatton to finally see sense and agree to fight me."

How can anyone with an ounce of knowledge defend fattons ducking?

witters gonna beat harris then malignaggi and be UNDISPUTED at 140!!

By NO Means is REED a Ricky Hatton APOLOGIST,but just Look @ WHO he's Faced N the Interim, while Witter is Facing Leftovers???:dunno: ...

    Hatton WHIPPED Kostya,DESTROYED Maussa,MOVED UP & "Beat" Colazzo,Moved DOWN & Beat Urango,then Jose Luis Castillo...That's 2 Lb 4 Lb'ders AND 3 REIGNING Champions...

    NOW Hatton's Facing THE Best Fighter N the World,Lb 4 Lb,Floyd Mayweather...

As Such, It's INCREDIBLY FOOLISH to Accuse Ricky Hatton of "Ducking" Junior Witter....NO ONE Outside of Witter's Camp can REALISTICALLY Say Hatton is Avoiding Witter...

Witter better not sleep on Harris, or he'll get PUT to sleep. Harris is a bitter guy with a lot to prove.

    Are you an idiot?

I'm not sure you know the history between Witter and Hatton.

It all started when Hatton beat Thaxton in 2000 and got cut to pieces. Witter gatecrashed the interview and challenged him and ever since Hatton has refused to fight him... the only british fighter that Hatton hasn't faced.

Hatton went along fighting the likes of Stephen Smith, Joe Hutchenson, Alberto Rios, Mike "joke" Stewart, Ray Oliviera, Carlos Vilhes, dennis pederson.

Witter was ready willing and AVAILABLE for each of those fights.

Hatton always sais, "When Witter gets a title I'll fight him."

Well Witter has the WBC title.

Hatton is a joke pretty much. Why did he fight Urango instead of Witter.

You americans don't understand the significance and SIZE of the Hatton Witter fight if it ever came off. It would sell out a stadium no problem.

The Hatton Witter fight would be BIGGER than Benn Eubank I and 2 or Bruno Lewis. Bigger than them over here.

Hatton is refusing to fight Witter for one reason only.

And that is because Witter represents a stern challenge and could well win and Hatton couldn't stomach losing to Junior Witter.

Agreed. But Witter has too much talent to lose to Harris.

:dunno: Hatton handpicked Urangutang, instead of gunning for the much bigger domestic clash between he and Witter, Hatton "Get a belt and then we'll fight"...:dunno: aww, he picked Urango?..what a suprise, that's like Fraud gunning for Arturo Gatti. Hatton cleared out and bested every domestic rival in Britain,.......apart from conveniently one,.. the SOUTHPAW with quick hands and BIG power, that's not a coincidence spaniard, it's extremely high risk, and Hatton don't want none of that.

Usually I dont sig bet unless I'm VERY confident in a fighter winning, and I'm not real confident cause Harris is so erratic. But I'll make an exception. Yeah I'll sig bet you.

Can't say that I agree with Hatton "ducking" Witter. But I do think Witter has the style, speed, and power to beat him.

REED WON'T Ignore that Witter CAN Present STYLISTIC Problems for Hatton, but there's NOfuckingWAY U Can Say Hatton's "Ducking" Witter by Facing HIGHER RANKED,More HIGHLY REGARDED Opposition:nono: ...

    That just DOESN'T Make Sense,Sorry...

Hatton's HEADLINING AMERICAN Fight Cards...That's EVERY Fighters Dream,Euro or Otherwise...

Let's See Witter Beat Harris 1st...THEN,if Hatton Happens to LOSE to Floyd as Most EXPECT,that'll B the PERFECT Time for a Hatton-Witter Matchup...

Right Now,Hatton is Doing Bigger & BETTER Things,UNDOUBTEDLY...

Jr. Witter is a stylistic nightmare for Hatton.....and he knows it.

so is Mayweather...but Floyd is the #1 guy, and it brings mucho dinero to the table.
Witter has never been that lucrative a risk for the one dimensional Hatton.

    southpaw...quick hands...decent power....BIG POWER?..

...HATTON has fought TSzYU, CASTILLO and soon will be fighting FLOYD MAYWEATHER......at the end of the day JUNIOR WITTER isn't in any of those guys level...

in the last few fights Witter has shown shitty stamina...if/when he gets tired from Hatton pressure..that will be the end of it....win...lose or draw...Hatton will probably fight Judah son in the UK...after the Mayweather fight..

:dunno: Not ducking Witter,..?... then why did Hatton announce to Witter "Get a belt then we'll fight" ,..Witter obliges, and Hatton choses Juan Urango as his comeback 140lb opponent? :eeeek: ,..a little odd considering Witter/Hatton would be the much bigger sell in England,..THEN after he beats Castillo, he calls out Pauli Malignaggi,... pffffttt,...come on Reed..

Aww Kauki is still sore about the stomping Ricky put on his old lil' hero.

Witter has shitty stamina and a more than questionable heart. At best he would trouble Hatton in the first few rounds then he would get steamrolled when it gets tough and Hatton keeps throwing punches round after round.

Witter ain't beating no world class fighter.

:nono: You're the one excusing Tszyu of being 'old', I made no excuses, and infact picked Hatton to win, losses are part of the game, I'm not terrified of them the way Fraud-groupies are.

why not Malignaggi? He beat N'dou easier than both Cotto or Witter...:rolleyes:ohh and yeah IYO Cotto ran from N'dou...what did WITTER do? After 6=7 rounds it was a sprint around the ring..trying not to fight NDou...

Malignaggi put on a better performance in his sole defeat..than Junior WITTER 11-1...10-2 lose to Zab Judah...

Hatton was Coming Off a TOUGH fight Against a "Slick Boxer" Named Luis Colazzo, who's Not Entirely UNlike Junior Witter,is he???:dunno: ...

On Top of that,Urango had THE Belt that Hatton VACATED...

& Whether U Think Hatton took the "Easy" Way Out by Facing Urango OVER Witter,NOBODY was Bitching about Hatton Taking on Castillo, were they???:dunno: ...

Despite How 1-Sided it Was,that's 1 of THE MORE MEANINGFUL Matchups of 2007,Bar None...

If Hatton was Pussyfooting Around,Taking on EuroBUMS or UNranked Opponents,REED Could Understand the logic that Hatton is "Ducking" Witter, but THE FACT REMAINS,Hatton has Faced 2 Lb 4 Lb'ders (Kostya,Castillo)& 3 REIGNING Champs (Maussa,Colazzo,Urango) N his Last 5 Bouts...

It Seems to REED like Witter & His "Camp" R DESPERATELY CLINGING to Ricky Hatton, while IGNORING THE FACT that Hatton is Engaging N 1 MEANINGFUL Bout After Another...

Sorry, but Since WHEN does Ricky Hatton OWE Junior Witter Anything???

What would beating Malignaggi accomplish in the broader scheme of things? That greasey rat had his arse beat by your little ham-headed bull, it's a step back, Witter also beat Corley without wobbling around the ring like girls the way Fraud and Cotto did if you wan't to fortify your frivolous fritter with that make-up. Witter's last loss was looong ago, he's proven himself a rehabilitated fighter and there's a much better marketing angle in Britain, and subsequently this fight would produce more cashflow, it should make sense for the greedy little mank troll, but he views it, as too great a risk to take, hence, he's DUCKING Witter, but more than willing to fight around him, IE Urango, Cotto's Itai bitch,..

I think i remember reading Hatton saying something similar....that if it was up to him Witter would never make a penny of him..it's not that Hatton FEARS him i believe it has more to do with hate...

If Hatton beats Mayweather..then it probably an easy fight in the UK..then a fight against Cotto in the states if he beats Mosley....

If he lose to Mayweather..he will go back to UK rebuild with one or two fights..and eventually fight Judah's son.
