Everyone is familiar with "Joppy lost because of the ring" or "Wlad was drugged".

    What are some other gems?

note: it doesn't have to be just from this site, other forums or fans offline count as well

That was Evander's pre-fight predictions. Excuse me, not prediction, but guarantee, that Gold told him he'd knock out Lennox in the 3rd round.

God didn't seem to have much to say on the rematch.

All jokes aside, this has alot to do with Lewis' domination in that first fight. Evender was CERTAIN he was going to win in 3 rounds. After his prediction failed he had no plan B.

yeah right. well if that's true, then the guy is incredibly stupid. and arrogant too if he was somehow convinced 100% that he'd be able to KO Lewis whenever he wanted to (in round 3).

what i found interesting was that after round 3, Holyfield never did go after Lewis again with the fury he'd shown in round 3.

Lewis got KO'd because he had to film 5 seconds of footage for Oceans 11.

Roy lost Taver III so his father wouldn't get the credit.

Yeah, I was actually a Lennox Lewis fan but that was ridiculous. It wasn't like he had a DeNiro-esque role and had to gain 50 lbs. for the part. It was a damn scene for a boxing match he had to film.

Wasn't that just a case of Tim Smith taking what Roy said and turning it into something else?

Kind of. Roy actually said it, but Tim Smith sold it as if Roy threw the fight. The truth is Roy threw the line out there, and left it wide open to interpretation as to what the fuck he meant by it. I think Roy was trying to allude to the "drama" that went down in his corner after the 5th (supposedly Merk and Big Roy got into it) and that it fucked w/ Roy's head from that point on. Only it came out the way it did, and Smith attempted to draw some more web hits.

for me this is the single most ridiculous one ever.

Manny said that Lemmon BENEFITED from the filming cuz he was over training.. he said the couple days off made Lemmon much more ready..

then he got KTFO and all the sudden it was a "distraction"
    :lol::rolleyes:

    Terrific.

It wasn't a loss; but Manny's "cheap socks" assertion that was later echoed by some fans was pretty  .

Was that the fight where he said he had blitsers? Did he say that after Marquez?

Roy didn't lose, but when he got knocked down by Lou Devalle, one Roy fan actually said - "Roy got knocked down cause he was beating his opponants so easily, that fans were losing interest in seeing him fight. So he alowed himself to get knocked down to put more fans in the seats to see his fights"

I couldn't make that up if I tried!! I think I read that at Eastside??

I'm not sure if it was a Duran fanatic, but I remember over at Eastside someone saying that Duran deserved the decision over Hagler.

The "Wlad was drugged" excuse is a good one.

Another one is "Vitali really beat Lewis" and "Lewis won that fight because the doctor was black and didn't want a white Euro to win"

Prison DID take away Ali's prime you simp! Thats no excuse its fact. When Ali came back, he was only about 70% of the fighter he was pre-exile.

As for Tyson, well Mike's "prime" ended in 89 probably. He was never quite the same after dumping Rooney. Pre-prison however, he was still damn good, as he proved in the Ruddock fights. Post-prison he was a shell of the fighter that beat Ruddock, prison definitely eroded what was left of his skills. He no longer moved his head, threw combinations, or worked the body after prison, and his reflexes had noticably declined. Post-prison he was just a wild swinger, burn out after 4-5 rounds.

It's pretty rare for any world class fighter to be gone from the sport for 3-4 years and ever be the same. Especially if a guy goes to prison without means to properly train as a boxer. Boxing requires so much timing, reflexes, accuracy, and repetition.

The fact that people actually expected Tyson to be the same after 3 years of non-boxing training shows how unrealistic people were when it came to Tyson. Especially when you had better fighters than Tyson in history who took layoffs like that, without prison, that were never the same.

And as for Ali, he never went to prison. He did a few days in jail for driving without a license.

That was all his time locked up.
