    From Fightnews

It is reported that unbeaten Jr-welterweight Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton is unhappy about the ticket allocation for his upcoming "super-fight" with Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on December 10th. The Manchester Evening News reports that Team Hatton have only been allocated 3,900 tickets for the travelling army of Hatton's fans. For the recent fight with Jose Luis Castillo in June in Las Vegas some 9,000 fans travelled from the UK alone. It is estimated that some 13,000 fans may have already booked hotels and flights from the UK prior to the tickets going on sales such is the anticipation for the fight in the UK. Hatton's father Ray Hatton commented, "I have never seen Ricky more gutted than this. We are trying to swap some of the more expensive tickets to get more tickets for Ricky's fans." It is estimated that of a 15,150 capacity for the event Hatton and Mayweather will each get 3,900 tickets and Golden Boy Promotions will be allocated 2,350 with a third being allocated to the MGM Grand for hotel guests and "high rollers" that will come into Vegas for the event. Team Hatton initially requested 10,000 for the event given the UK exodus for the Castillo fight in June.

This fight should have been in England from the get go or in a big city. :shit: :shit:

    13,000 already booked rooms?

Maybe they ought to get a ticket first.

They could've done it at the staples center at least.

Could the Staples Center outbid a Vegas casino though?

Rickey's "gutted" because they won't let him turn Vegas into Manchester. Fuck Ricky Ruiz AND his alcoholic supporters. :nono:

They'll sell out no problem, even without all the Red Coats who were dumb enough to reserve hotel rooms without tickets to the fight.

I'd rather they let Ricky turn Vegas into Manchester than for Golden Boy to turn it into another business convention.

I agree with the other claims that the fight should've been in the UK - or at least anywhere that satisfy Hatton's ticket demand.

Get ready Erratic - another GBP rant is forthcoming.

The TV dollars far outweigh any live gate. Why the hell would Mayweather travel to the UK to satisfy "Rickey's" ticket demand? :dunno:

He got 3900 tickets for his fans plus whatever they can gobble up on the open market. His cheering section will be plenty big for this fight.

Why would boxing need a good fanbase, right?

The live gate might not equal 15 million, but I think they can get close to it if it took place in england. Mayweather would get alot more than he is now....probably twice as much.

Anyone know the figures on how much the casinos generally put up on a site fee for a big fight, as opposed to larger, arenas (in whatever city or country) where there's no gambling?

There is no open market, though.

    Hatton - 3900 tix
    Floyd - 3900 tix (7800)
    GBP - 2350 (10,150)

That leaves the remaining 5,000 (1/3) with the MGM Grand, whose customers will obviously get first dibs. I'm sure Hatton's fans flying over from the UK sought the cheapest hotels, which automatically KO's the MGM Grand.

I understand the business side, but it leaves the fight devoid of a spirited environment. Honestly, name the last Golden Boy event in Vegas that didn't feel like a 3-hour long Powerpoint presentation?

There are fighters, that actually have more than 3900 fans and maybe they do, because they actually give a crap about them. :slap:

Why appeal to an audience, that doesn´t care about the fight, to suck out the greatness of the event. It´s just short-sighted. What if Vegas decides MMA is the new hot stuff and boxing should take a backseat. What will Oscar do?

Geez, the crowd for Mayweather vs. De La Hoya was definately the worst for any superfight. It's a real shame.

I think Calzaghe/Kessler will generate a live gate of 15 million dollars and so would Hatton/Mayweather.

Well, the highest live gate was over $19,000,000 for Floyd vs. Oscar. Second is 16.8 million, so getting close with 75,000 people could happen.

They're talking about a crowd of at least 60,000 for Calzaghe-Kessler. Tickets range from 40-500£ (approx. $80-1000 in US currency). At those prices and at that capacity, they might be looking at a $25 million live gate.

Would you fly to and book a hotel in England just to settle for purchasing the fight on PPV?

Arben has a point Noble. Apparently in England that little box that recieves waves of a certain length that translates as a picture is not a feature of daily life. Did they invent the wheel yet incidently?

I call BS. The day that you have to be able to go live to a fight, including travel to be a fan of a guy, is the day that boxing really prices itself out of the market. We are talking about inconveniencing people with a lot of money.... Fuck em I say. Let them do like me and Noble and have to go to Judah's Miami crap game to watch the fight near the back door while sexy skanky hoes role dice and Juda's troops make like the Macabees.

Let Hatton's legions go to a pub and watch the fight, or a vegas bar.

I'm sorry, but holding 5,000 tickets for a casino to give to its high rollers and another 2,300 or so for the promoter to pass along to sponsors (present and potential future ones) is the exact opposite of inconveniencing people with money. What you're talking about is an inconvenience to actual FANS

You make a lot of sense as usual Jake. But I think the spirit of boxing is best fufilled when the little guys can watch the fight. Spirited, rich Mancunians so drunk they are pissing on their shoes just does not do it for me. But seriously they could have put it in a bigger venue I can't argue that point.

and it's for that reason that I never got into hockey, or desired to attend a Rangers' game

But that's a problem in any sport. You're always gonna run into some drunk asshole, be it a fight, a football game, baseball game, whatever. Hell, I almost got into a fight w/ some dude at the Diaz-Morales card, poppin' shit to me about Archie Solis knocking out "that sorry ass Puerto Rican." The "sorry ass puerto Rican" being Rodel Mayol (never minding the fact that I'm not Puerto Rican either)

Floyd should immediately turn over 2900 of his tickets. I doubt the Grand Rapids contigent will use all their tickets.

I might. The fight would be a part of the plans but I might use it as an excuse to pub around with the locals. But I wouldn't go exclusively to watch the fight on PPV.

Look, call me a Plebian but I really would always prefer to watch a Trinidad fight with a bunch of drunk Puerto Rican's at a social club, than sitting next to Jennifer Tilley live. My dad said the most intense fight he ever heard was on radio... the second Schmeling Louis affair.

I agree a bigger venue might have been considerate but I don't think boxing has any reason to accomidate the rich people who can afford the arena. The real fans can buy the PPV by chipping in a few bucks and a few beers, and deal with wives like the rest of us have too... that is the fan base to me. How many fans can afford a trip to Vegas and seats? :dunno:
