I can't argue that. But I tell you what if they would have a reasonable cost for ppv locations I think this would be a bigger issue for the lion's share of fans. What percentage of any fighter's fans can afford a live fight?

Yeah and a lot of rich assholes who are corporate lawyers dress up like Raider's fans and go to the games in Oakland when anybody with any sense knows that years ago ticket prices were such that no real Raider's fan can actually afford to go to the Colesium.

Sorry, I see the point and concede that a bigger venue would have been better but beyond that I doubt that percentage wise, Hatton's fans can as a whole afford the luxury of live seats. Hatton is a working class banger, could he have afforded tickets to his fights? Point being the real responsability of a fighter is to reach out and be accesible to all his fan base not just the small percentage that can afford a live fight. Too bad if they were inconvenienced. Its a good thing I am not a promoter as I would make em fight on a barge with a twine wrapped square circle and a one eyed ref named.... jake.

How does it work in Vegas, though? Aren't most Vegas cards that are PPV everywhere else limited to closed circuit in Vegas? if so, then you're stuck paying $50 (or probably $55 for this fight) a pop.

I just hate the corporate side of sports. Baseball games (particularly the playoffs) suffer the most, but even attending an NBA game is ass these days. I just think it's something boxing can do without. I've even applauded Arum's efforts for bringing a lot of his shows away from the strip, and putting them in arenas that would have more of a party/celebratory atmosphere.

Honestly, it makes all of the difference in the world. Diaz-Morales drew less than 10,000, but it felt like there were 100,000 people in the arena. To this day, Trinidad-Joppy is the wildest fight card I've ever attended - from beginning to end, including the undercard which quite frankly, sucked.

& if he DARES Back Out of the Fight Because of this,he's the ULTIMATE Wuss...

If Hatton's Sooooooo CONCERNED w/his Fans Getting Tickets, then Go Ahead & Fight Witter N Europe,Charge Next to NATHAN for the Prices & Allow 50-60,000 to See it...

LOL. The corporate side of things always digs at the conscience of the real fans. And yeah you are right that a non partisan crowd of high rollers is a turn off.

I think 50 bucks a pop is the real problem that needs addressing... that and more venues. Make it so people can buy a few beers and enjoy the fight without going bankrupt... Its the same damn problem as going to the zoo here in the city is IMO. I see a working class family from Oakland and wonder how the guy with his 2 kids and wife in toe can afford an outing that will cost him at least 60 bucks after hot dogs.:dunno:

Yeah, I guess Ricky would like to bring in his own seperate referee as well. Somebody who's going to let him grab, maul, push, and hold & hit.

Anyway, if this fight had been in England 1 plus would have been that they would be able to wear 8oz gloves.

For the most part, they are not rich mancunians...On this side of the atlantic you frequently have blokes spending every penny of available income and borrow credit to make it to these sporting events, be it an international football game, liverpool in the champions league etc...its not simply disposable income that would be lying around otherwise, they just do fuck all else with their lives.

Every time a thread is brought up about best fight atmosphere, best fight crowd, the UK fight fans always get brought up because of the football-like support. Yet there are folks here seemingly dismissing the fact that the event has suffered from this corporate takeover...

Not You PERSONALLY,but ALOT of Euro Fans BASHED Floyd-DeLa Because it was "Only" an EVENT & Not Necessarily an Important FIGHT for Boxing...

N This Case,Floyd-Hatton is Undeniably IMPORTANT for the Sport...The UNDEFEATED Linear Welter Champ (& Lb 4 Lb Best in the Sport) vs the UNDEFEATED Linear Jr Welter Champ...

But Now that Boxing DOES have an Ultra Important FIGHT,Euro Fans R BITCHING about the EVENT "Suffering"???:dunno: ...

Bottom line, Floyd-Hatton Could NEVER Approach the "Event" Status of DeLa-Floyd...DeLa's BIGGER than Floyd AND Hatton COMBINED,in America...

The FIGHT is All that Should Matter,Especially to Hatton & Floyd...

Dude, imagine you had been following Hatley through the various rounds of the US Nationals, watching him get to the finals at his weight, only to find that all the seats at the finals had already been bought by corporate block-bookers, Nike execs, and clients being taken for a night out on the expense account....The fight may not suffer, but think back to trinidad-vargas and imagine that fight happening exactly the same way if the venue was filled by a bunch of exec VPs and bored rich gamblers, you think it would've?

Let's Take it a Step Fuuuuuuuuuuurther...

Imagine REED is a FAN of Sugar Shane Mosley AND Ferocious Fernando Vargas...

Imagine REED is IN Vegas (for the 1st Time EVER) for their RE,yet is UNsuccessful in Getting Tickets,Because the Venue was "Filled w/Exec VP's,Bored Rich Gamblers",Celebrities & "Connected" Boxing People...

Instead of CRYING Over the Way Things Transpired,Imagine REED Making the MOST of it by Hanging Outside of the MGM & Chatting it Up w/Boxing Personalities,as they LEFT the Fight...

This is a TRUE Story...REED Paid for FLIGHT Tickets & SHELTER for 3 Days, yet DIDN'T Actually Get to SEE Shane-Vargas II til the HBO REPLAY the Following Week...& REED has Been a DIE-HARD Fan of Mosley AND Vargas for their Entire Pro Careers...

REED Didn't Find Out UNTIL he was in Line Getting Tickets, that there was None Available...& the Scalpers were GROSSLY Overpricing the Seats (REED was Gonna Get a NOSEBLEED Seat Anyways)...

    Shit Happens:dunno: ...

"I'm HERE in Vegas FOR this Fight, yet I WON'T Get to See It"...REED REALLY Got Pissed when Punk Ass Tarver Walked By w/a Suit & Shades on (INSIDE),Tickets ALREADY in Hand...

REED Tried to BRIBE MGM Employees,REED even tried to BRIBE HBO's Staff, who were Set Up In an Adjacent Conference Room...

    NO DICE!!!:nono: ...

Yet & Still,REED is VERY Glad he Went...

I don't think eight thousand Brits who paid lots of money to travel to Vegas want to be "that guy" who couldn't get in but lurks around the venue looking for anyone to talk to.

I know I wouldn't be content with resorting to that.

Boxing routinely alienates it's fans, so this is nothing new.

Want to go to a clubshow where the main event is a 11-0 fighter against someone who is 2-12? Well cough up 300 bucks.

Can't pay that much? How about 100 for balcony seating behind the tech guys?

The last fight before the live telecast was a first round knockout in a fight scheduled for twelve rounds? Well, you get the privilage of waiting for 45 minutes watching as a woman applies makeup in a futile attempt at making Larry Merchant look like he's alive.

You want the arena to start playing music while you wait? No, HBO doesn't want to ruin their live telecast with music in the background.

You want the ring girls to start prancing around the ring and maybe even toss some shirts into the crowd? No, HBO doesn't want to ruin their live telecast by giving off the impression that the people in the arena are having a good time.

You want a boxing match to take place in the ring while you're at a....boxing match? No. Again, HBO doesn't want to ruin their telecast.

You want to cheer as your favorite fighter wins the biggest matchup of his life and you want to see his emotions pour out? No, we need 80 people in the ring at the time.

You don't know who is fighting and you'd like some sort of video intro? No, promoters won't waste the extra money, so you cheer for fighters you have no clue about.

You want to watch an actual fight and not one where the red corner ALWAYS wins? Nope. Sorry, the promoter is hoping that his 3-1 fighter, who is three weight classes above where he should be and three hundred training classes away from being a real fighter, could one day be the set-up guy for a better fighter on ESPN. So he has to win his four rounder against a 1-3 fighter who is six weight classes above where he should be and about three trackmarks away from being a bonafide crackhead while the promoter says it's an exciting brawl.

But no. When someone wants ACTUAL fans want to see him fight, we get on his case about it.

Please, I'll take Gatti vs. Branco, Cotto or Tito at the garden ten times out of ten over Mayweather vs. De La Hoya. Shit, I'll take Muriqi vs. Tarver in front of 5,000 crazy ass Albanians over Mayweather vs. De La Hoya.

Excuse me for wanting to enjoy a fight live.

you could've just done a pre fight article and sent it to cupey and he would've put you in for a credential.

why pay for tickets when you can go in as press? arent you a semi-frequent contributor?

most website owners demand a pre-fight piece from the writer who's gonna cover the event.

i guess cupey follows the same tradition.
