LOS ANGELES, September 7 – Due to an injury suffered in training camp by WBC Super Featherweight World Champion Juan Manuel Marquez, the September 15 "Fireworks" Pay-Per-View show promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and scheduled for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas has been cancelled. http://fightbeat.com/news_details.php?NW=20203
what a bummer!....whats happening to the exciting undercard line-up?!.....as frustrating as it is, with Mayorga-Vargas and now this....out of all the fights we got coming up, i'd give these two up before the rest......hopefully this will be the end of the cancelations.....
yeah, he was a firm favourite....in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make much difference....i doubt the fight will be remade....Marquez-Barrios/Juarez was nothing but a fight to bide time
as long as nothing happens to.... Pavlik vs. Taylor Calslappy vs. Kessler Cotto vs. Mosley Money Mayweather vs. Hatton everything will be PERFECT!!!!
I knew this fight was in trouble the moment Kelly Swanson told the media during the conference call, "Make sure to put in your reports about the ticket info. Fans should know that there are PLENTY of tickets still available." Oscar's finding out the hard way that JMM's talent far exceeds his marketability.
This was a stupid fight and too much risk. Marquez-Pacman is the only fight for JMM. This injury is complete bullshit. Cupey
are you suggesting that Marquez is not really injured? blasphemy! gbp is here to clean up boxing. they'd never engage in such shenanigans
I don't know how much was being shelled out for the undercard but there's no reason why they couldn't keep it intact and aired it on HBO Latino. It's not like JMM-Juarez was a money maker, anyway.
If the injury really is bullshit, why do it now? a week before the fight?:dunno: why leavey eveyone hanging like that? All the fighters on the undercard, plus being September 15 I figured that will automatically add more ticket buyers and viewers for the ppv card.
i don't know, it didn't seem to help ticket sales for Barrera-Juarez II last year, with a loaded undercard AND the main event being a rematch of one of the year's best fights. Nor did it help Barrera-Peden the year before. Hell, Corrales-Castillo I barely drew 5,000 on Cinco de Mayo weekend.
damn you make JMM's popularity seem like Ruiz's  as if the guy was a complete nobody and never was involved in an exciting fight.::
I like watching Marquez fight..esp. in competitive fights. Were he has to go in for the kill..vs. Pac..MAB...etc.. but for some reason he doesn't have the fans MAB or Morales have....:dunno:
um... no shit! :: The boxing public isn't stupid. Pac-JMM II is the one fight at 130 that MUST happen. JMM-Barrios wasn't even that intriguing, JMM-Juarez even less so. Nary a tear will fall from my eye over Golden Boy's failed plan to turn one fight into three PPV events. I hate to say it, as I like Pac, but I hope Pac-MAB II is a financial bust.
JM Marquez just CAN'T Get Shit Right... For Years he was Supposedly "Ducked" By All the Feather Champs, then he Gets his Shot Against Freddie Norwood & LOSES 1 of the More BORING Fights U'll EVER See... After he Finally WINS a Title,Marquez Gets the Chance to UNIFY vs Gainer & they Put Forth a DREADFUL Fight (Thru NO Fault of Marquez)...After that,Marquez Gets the "Money" Fight he's ALWAYS Wanted,Fights ADMIRABLY in Pulling out a DRAW vs Manny Pac,yet SQUANDERS the Opportunity for a HIGH Profile,HIGH Dollar Immediate RE,likely on PPV... Instead,Marquez "Ducked" Pac & LOST his Title to Chris John... Marquez Eventually Fights his Way BACK into Contention & Beats the Mexican ICON,Barrera,in a CLOSE,Entertaining Fight, on PPV...Instead of Following this Up w/the RE we ALL Wanna See,vs Manny Pac (or an Immediate RE w/Barrera),Marquez Signs to Fight Barrios...Then Juarez... But NOW,he'll End Up Fighting NOBODY... EVERYTIME Marquez's Career Takes a POSITIVE Step,2-3 NEGATIVE Steps R SURE to Follow.... REED
It HAS to B FRUSTRATING to B a FAN of Marquez... IN the Ring,he's a TREASURE to Watch, but the BUSINESS Side of his Career has Been SHITTY... 1st,he COULDN'T Get Fights, then when he Could,he AVOIDED Big Money Fights... Only Marquez Could BEAT a Mexican ICON,then SQUANDER ALL of that Momentum by his VERY NEXT Bout... REED
He avoided big money fights? aside from the Pacquiao rematch I don't recall a shitload of big money fights coming his way that he rejected.:dunno:
How is it Marquez fault? Vegas gets all the big fights, of course they aren´t lining up for Marquez/Barrios or Marquez/Juarez. If Oscar had put the card on somewhere in Cailfornia/Arizona/Texas in a 5000-seat arena, the card could still run with Guerrero/Honorio and Ouma/Mora. That is not a bad card, actually it is a B.A.D. card. Sometimes you have to take a loss as a promoter. Oscar is really letting the undercard guys hang dry. He seems to think every fighter can earn a living by fighting once or twice a year like he does.
