According to Art of Boxing Promotions, the fledgling company's first show will be headlined by a name from the past, Juan “El Pollo†Valenzuela, 20-6 with 9 KOs. Valenzuela alwys fought tough compeition and holds wins over current IBF lightweight titlist Julio Diaz, 2000 Olympic silver medalist Ricardo Williams and Brian Adams. He hasn't fought since 2004 when it was discovered he had a torn retina. Art of Boxing Promotions reports that Valenzuela's eye has healed and he has been cleared to fight. His return is slated for the Warner Center Marriott, Woodland Hills, California on November 2, 2007. No opponent has been announced yet. - very exciting chap...would be nice to see him against someone like Ricardo Torres or Juan Diaz, even David Diaz...
wow this is awesome news - this dude is a fucking maniac in the ring. i'm surprised he has just 9 kos. he's a killer. i give him a shot against juan but i doubt he fights at 135. i bet he comes in at 147.
as if this club fighter was something special. he barely squeeked by eleazar contreras. ricardo williams turned out to be a joke and the julio diaz fight was a fluke, otherwise, diaz would've won.
williams was a joke? yeah, because he sold yayo. but his skills cannot be questioned. i agree pollo isn't the most skilled guy - he's reminiscent of cuevas a little, but he's a hard man and a killer with a great chin. he can be a factor.
Pollo will not get far, but he's an exciting fighter. If matched against face-first opponents, he'll have a decent career.
dude you are nuts! the williams fight wasn't entertaining? it was a great fight. an absolute war. i recommend you watch it again. it was one of my favorite fights to watch for a while. very exciting. no holding. slick moves from williams, hard upper-cuts from Pollo. sick clean shots landing round after round. watch it again. trust me.
He won just about every round against Williams, and startched a Diaz in the opening round who is about to be in a unification bout at 135 The guy wasn't world class but earned a shot at Cotto before the injury, I hope he gets back in the mix
