This is primarily for any Aussies who saw the Fenech fight card tonight. Shannon Taylor v Sonny Michael Angelo Shannon Taylor gets one of worst cuts I have ever seen 1 minute into the fight and is somehow awarded the WBF belt? If this turns up on Youtube, I'll post the link. This kind of result is one of the reasons why Australian Boxing continues to have a low profile. Taylor and Angelo CLEARLY throw a punch at the same time and clash heads accidently. The cut is so bad you can almost see Shannons skull through it and quite rightly, the fight is stopped. Here's the problem: It was clearly accidental. Taylor whinges and whines and then the most ridiculous verdict ever is handed out. Butt is ruled intentional and then Taylor wins the belt. Surely this should have been a draw. How can a title be awarded after 1 minute of one round over a head clash? These decisions and the numerous 'draws' we seem to get over here are why the sport does not hold the interest of the casual viewer. Our talent level is the highest it has ever been but what does it matter when we see rubbish like this? :dunno:
Reminds me of Yoan Pablo Hernandez vs. a Latvian journeyman. Hernandez didn´t do very well, in the second round a accidental clash of heads opens a cut above Hernandez eye and after some discussions the journeyman was disqualified for an intentional headbutt.
Yep. He got stung by the first punch landed but was never in danger of losing this fight IMO as Angelo is unorthodox at best. Taylors head is a mess of scar tissue. He probably bleeds putting on a hat. Terrible, terrible decision.
UPDATE: This fight has been ruled a technical draw. Rematch in December. Thank goodness clear thinking has appeared to have prevailed. :clap:
