It's also getting A LOT of use from world-famous Freddie Roach, trainer of boxing's No. 1 pound for pound most exciting fighter MANNY PACQUIAO. Pacquiao is training for his 12-round super featherweight rumble against three-division world champion and personal nemesis Marco Antonio Barrera in the main event of "Will to Win!" -- the pay-per-view extravaganza.

i'm sure barrera trained hard for the marquez fight yet he looked old and sluggish. i doubt he can turn any tricks even against the ill-prepared version of pac.

an informed and inflamed source said pac was unhappy

so Pac wants around 8 million.

what was Hamed's highest purse? didn't he only get like 3 million vs barrera?

Seems pretty cool though, was nice when I met him, needs some ADHD medication though.

he wrote for the NY Post (or was it the NY times?) a hundred moons ago, then was King's PR guy for a while, then went to Sycuan (he was w/ Baldomir during his post-fight interview after the Judah fight, yelling into the mic about Baldomir being God, and no rematch clause, and what not) until last year when he ventured out on his own.

Let's say this is true...

As much as I have respect for Freddy Roach, it shows what a bitch he can be. Afterall, isn't Manny training in Manilla because he was worried about spies from the Barrera camp?

:dunno:

who's to say it was done by Roach, though? Fred Sternburg's been known to send out a bullshit release or 20 for the sake of hyping up a fight.

Case in point, he's the one that started all of the Manila Ice stuff (Manny's alleged secret weapon). When reporters asked Manny about it during conference calls and pressers, he had no clue what the fuck they were talking about, at which point Fred would interrupt and move the conversation along

wow, you seriously don't believe Barrera's in the twilight of his career? The dropoff may even extend back a bit further, just that guys like Fana and Peden aren't the guys to expose such limitations.

There were an assortment of excuses as to why he looked the way he did in the 1st Juarez fight, and a reinvigorated MAB would surface for the rematch. But no such version showed up, just a more lethargic version of Rocky (hence the shitty fight).

I agree with Joony that both Marco and JMM looked past it in their March fight. Marquez has been slowing down for a while as well. Like Marco, excuses came for his past performances (sitting down more on his punches, trying a more exciting style, etc.) but they're both past their prime, Marco more so than Marquez.

He is in the twilight but another fact is that Barerra is always better in rematches, always.
Even the J Jones fight was alot closer the second time.

I thought he fought better in the 1st Morales fight than the rematch. (though of course, you can extend it and say he fought better in the 3rd).

But if nothing else, he usually fights far more defensive - and with far less passion - in rematches. He had Junior beat in the rematch, but for whatever reason refused to step on the gas in the 2nd half, allowing Junior to shoeshine his way to a win.

barrera was at his best at 122. even then, it's not like he was a straight up brawler. he still had an excellent jab and boxing skills, except he was young and tough enough to take risks and engage in wars.

since the first morales fight, he looked good against an ancient jesus salud, a faded Hamed, old ass Tapia, a shot Kelley, and some stiff he once lost to in amateurs. i thought he clearly lost to morales in the rematch.

most forget, he also looked less than stellar against valbunea on the roy-harding undercard.

today's version of barrera is more tentative than ever and he sure doesn't have the speed or reflexes he had in the late 90s and early 2000.

he might not be shot, but he's certainly old. same goes for marquez.
