Sportsman-businessman Hermie Esguerra told The STAR recently Morales won't be in attendence for the Pacquiao-Barrera II rematch. He's opted to skip the bout in order to train for a rematch against David Diaz. <!-- m -->http://fightbeat.com/news_details.php?NW=20310
I think Morales should leave well enough alone. If he felt he won (as did many others in attendance), then take it as a moral victory. I'm not sure I see a rematch turn out any better for Morales. If nothing else, it gived David the confidence knowing there's room for improvement, and also that he can survive the best of whatever Morales has left.
for what it's worth, this is a rumor with barely any legs. So far, Diaz-Katsidis remains a possibility, but still nowhere near a done deal. Not sure who is Hermie Esguerra. Maybe he's Marley's secret mole.
I didn't think I would see Morales return not good news really he did well against Diaz but he's only kidding himself.

David Diaz sucked then, he sucks now, he´ll suck in January. :dunno: Wouldn´t Katsidis be fighting against the Juan Diaz/Julio Diaz winner, since he´s the WBO interim champion. I wonder whether Oscar would get involved to stop the rematch, since his new signing Joel Casamayor and David Diaz are also supposed to fight, but since Jorge Arce was an interim champ for two years, that´s probably not a problem with the WBC. ::
Morales-Diaz II is a good money match. Morales proved he has something in the tank to put up maybe even one more good fight. Diaz his hittable but keeps on coming. Good main event in Vegas with a strong undercard might sell. Maybe put Chavez Jr. on the card. Cupey
The first fight had Chavez Jr. in the chief support. It drew a decent crowd, but not one where Arum is still counting his millions. I can see HBO financing Diaz-Katsides before I see them gunning for 2 PPVs in January (Jones-Trinidad being the other), esp. one between a still relative unknown and a faded legend riding a four-fight losing streak
It probably wasn't best for the turnout to have it on the same night as Marquez-Vasquez (on cable). Katsidis would take years off Morales' life, if not decades.
This would be a good fight to hold on the West Coast or Mexico. Arum has shown a tendency to get away from Vegas. I think it would fail in Vegas, but do good elsewhere. I´d say Tijuana just to make sure the judges get it right this time. :stir: TV could be a problem, depends what numbers the first fight did. :dunno:
I wasn't talking about PPV numbers, I was talking about live attendance. A fight in a Texas border town (esp. as poorly attended as Vazquez-Marquez II) would have little to no impact on a fight in Chicago.
Thanks bro. I wasn't really sure if that kid Chavez was a draw or not. I don't think Morales-Diaz II would be on PPV unless the numbers of the first event warrant it. I think it would be a great goodbye to say the Mexican great say adios on HBO. But maybe it could be on the undercard of Pacquiao-Marquez II as a co-feature. C
HBO helped distribute, but it was otherwise a Top Rank PPV. So the numbers could be deceptive. If it did anything noteworthy, it would've been announced. I think it did enough to where TR made a little bit of coin, but not enough to where a rematch becomes a priority - though thanks to the WBC (and more specifically, Casamayor), David can make an optional defense next.
Yeah, but Diaz-Morales was only going to draw well among Mexican fans in the Chicago area...I'm sure some of them stayed home to watch Vasquez-Marquez on Showtime (and perhaps the pppv as well).
EDITORS NOTE 5:30 PM SEPTEMBER 17 - TOP RANK'S LEE SAMUELS DENIED THAT MORALES IS PREPARING FOR A RING RETURN.
I was gonna say, "another site" also dispelled the rumors. Everyone at 8 Count denies that such a fight is taking place, scheduled, or even in the negotiation stage.
you might be right :: but actually I called them myself as well, as it pertains to an article I was in the middle of writing for tomorrows column
:: Ah it was the innocent S/D typo. For a minute there I thought you were working in past tense, and used gived instead of gave ::
haha that makes YOU the idiot now for even considering it... :: i did the same... but i didn't read the whole thing just laughed about what Mex discovered there... Reminds me of George Bush transfoorming verbs into those "higher" forms like giverize or giverate... ::
I get shades on Toney/Peter here. I thought Morales won the first fight and should have won the decision. Same with Toney/Peter 1, I thought Toney won clearly. This time, however, I say Diaz gives Morales a pounding.
That could just be shades of Pacquiao-Morales II. :: There's only so many times an shop worn fighter can come up with a "last great performance". For Morales' sake, I'd rather see him rematch Bobby Boy Velardez.
no offense, but it's a lack of professionalism to title something on the home page what you want the article to say rather than what really is the case. I realize that you referenced a single source (that Filipino businessman), but his take makes it a rumor, regardless of how close he is to Morales. Apparently he's not that close, since both Top Rank and 8 Count vehemently denied such a fight is set to take place. It's one thing for you to bring it up for message board chatter, but it's a different story when it comes to the home page. At least in my opinion, anyway. It's your site and you can (and obviously will) do whatever you want.
