ah well that explains it then

In response to our other convo - yeah, Briggs keeps getting fucked. To this day I don't know why King didn't want to do a Dawson-Briggs fight last time out, or what his plans are for him.

Chris Henry's been brought along carefully to a high WBC ranking in under three years as a pro. You think they'd throw him into his first major TV fight on short notice, no way.
Chris is tentatively scheduled to fight in Beaumont, on the Valerie Mahfood farefell card. (I'm sure we'll all shed tears over that retirement.)
He'd also been offered the Briggs fight. Good matchup for Chris, exciting fight while it lasts. And of course, they wanted the Tarver fight which Green got, but who doesnt want Tarver at this point..

This years schedule is still great. I don't think i have ever seen HBO with a better schedule then what they have scheduled right now up to December 8.

yeah but rescheduled doesn't change the fact that it's one less fight that gets shown. every now and then i feel justified in bitching and moaning about something. this is one of those moments.

i'm gonna cry like a bitch because i can't see my fight. wa wa wa.

Honestly i would have every card this month cancelled before Taylor-Pavlik. So far so good.

apparently you and henry's brain trust lack the confidence the stinger has in this fellas abilities. I guess not everyone shares hegmans pugilistic expertise.

on the upside, it does build greater anticipation for Taylor-Pavlik, which hopefully translates to better-than-expected ratings.

Still, I'd rather see a fight every weekend (or close to it), or at least have the option to watch one.

Showtime and King just announced that Epifanio Mendoza is the replacement opponent.

    Taylor-Pavlik, it is.

yeah, esp, at 175. he's barely a serviceable middleweight.

though this should bring ArturoGatti/20YearOldVirgin out of posting retirement

I thought it was King who rejected the fight? I'm almost positive I remember Briggs taking issue w/ King as a result of it.

That's a pretty shitty fight. The only question is does Dawson win by KO to the head or to the body?

The one wild card in the fight is that Mendoza is nothing if not a puncher, and Chad doesn't have the greatest chin in the world. So maybe a knockdown along the way disrupts an otherwise mismatch.

True but Mendoza's punch resistance is crap as well. David Lopez stopped him with 1 body shot. Dawson is a pretty good bodypuncher when he goes downstairs.

Well now that this fight has been called off, it gives us all the oppurtunity to imagine what Dawson would do to Hopkins, I see a one-sided humiliating beatdown with Hopkins bobbling around on the floor sick, the way he was against Seguta Mercado(sp).

    Not me, bro.
Chad is a wide open fighter that Bernard would exploit and school, giving him a beatdown and a boxing (professional prizefighting) lesson.

Bernard would lose to Adamek and he'd lose to Dawson.

Which is why he'll never fight Dawson. Too fast, too strong, too big, and most importantly too busy to get shut down like Tarver. He'd be doing everything Taylor did, only better.

That's the definition of oxymoron. lmao.

Karl's been on the Henry bandwagon for a few months.

I've been ringside for 13 of Chris's 21 bouts and seen him spar 25+ times.

I read a couple things here...

Karl is new to the party and you've been down with Chris from the beginning.

With that said...how about he fights someone with a pulse for a change? That's not to say the guy won't turn out to be something, but let's see him fight someone...ANYONE.

At this point, the guy is no better than Allan Green and his win streak in Oklahoma...we saw how things turned out for Green when he fought his first real guy.

Agree with you 100%. Just consider though that Chris wasnt an elite amateur. Didnt train very much in am's, was fighting at 200. He did win a JO title and competed in Western Trials, but nothing on a Ward or Dirrell level.
So he came to Benton and Spagnola very raw. He's walking around now at 181, very lean and has gotten this far on hard work. He's still improving with every fight. He spars alot with good competition and that's helped him grow.
Without extensive amateur competition and still less than 3 years as a pro, his ranking and regional titles are quite an achievement.... especially for Benton and Spagnola..

Heyman was considered servicable before Chris retired him. Whitaker was barely onto the downslope of his career and gave Chris a good test. Stodden was thought to be durable but said he'd never been hit that hard. Stephens and Miller had lasted much longer with good competition but wilted quickly with Chris. And Saunders went to war with Chris and now his career is probably over because of it. (Derrick James was barely a shade of his former self, and the foul machine Pedro has no biz being licensed..)

They will continue to pick opponents wisely until a couple $100K fight comes along for him. Otis Griffin, Badi Ajamu, or Rico Hoye types will be what they look for next. Hopefully on a fox regional broadcast atleast..

Hmm, following that Allan Green blueprint, would love to see Curtis Stevens come to town to challenge Chris and end up in that downward facing dog yoga position like Jaidon was in.

BTW, Marcus Johnson is the best prospect in TX for 168/175.. Look at what Chris did with ET Whit and then what Marcus did. Comparing Chris and Marcus, is a perfect illustration of why Don King has no biz guiding young careers.

I don;t understand this part. I'll have to ask REED, who I know was at Henry-Whitaker, having covered it for the site, but I thought he said Henry struggled in that fight. In fact, wasn't Henry dropped in that fight?

If I have it right (and it's possible I have fight reports mixed up), then how would that favorably compare to Marcus stopping Whitaker in a round in ET's very next fight?

No, Chris struggled, was a learning experience, Marcus tore right through ET.

Meaning that Marcus should be the one with NABF titles and ready to step in with Dawson, not Chris.. Is big diff having Spags lead your career versus having James Prince and Don King..

I have two versions of Henry-Whit if you want to see it. It was on local Dallas TV.

    oh ok, gotcha.

Whatever happened with Marcus' brother (or was it cousin)? Has he fought since getting beat by Boone? And with pug as my witness, that was an upset I saw coming

to somewhat steer it back toward topic - considering this recent turn of events, now seems like the time to kick Chris' career into high gear. "Like I said before" I don't blame his handlers for not wanting this fight on short notice (not that it was even offered to them), but it should serve as a reminder that he's bound to be elevated to #1 sooner than later.
