Here is my favorite quote "Roach is a **beep** trainer. He guided Oscar to a loss and once Vasquez dropped Freddie he beat Rafael Marquez. He should worry about Pacquiao and not my bandages. I've fought in Las Vegas many times and nobody ever had a problem about my bandages. He's talking like a man who knows his fighter is on his way out" http://fightbeat.com/podcast/barreraconference.wmv
thanks for posting this. I actually forgot about this conf. call, after dealing with line disconnects on the Holy-Ibragimov call. One question, though - there's a part where Dangina Rafael is on the third of three feature-length questions. "Marco, I have just one more question..." and all of a sudden you hear "Oh shit..." in the background. Was that you, or did Eric Gomez slip up? ::
I officially hate that buffet hogging fat ass known as Dangenda. Dear God why doesnt every PR person just get under the 15 stomachs he has and literally suck him off. Dude isnt even that good of a writer and breaks old ass shit. as for Marco he is a fucking liar he treated Roberto Diaz and his trainer Rudy Perez with such disrespect its comical. They decided to go their seperate ways my ass.
I catch myself all the time when playing back recorded conference calls. Missing quotes because I'm yelling "gimme a fuckin' break" every time Rafael, Franklin McNeil, Robert Morales and others waste everyone's time with their gaggle of ridiculous and obvious questions.
Damn Eaner. Harsh. I'm just not a fan of Dan because he thinks his shit doesn't stink, and the only people who get along with him are the ones that think it's some kind of an honor to be in his presence. I'm really not a big fan of the 2 other dudes Jake mentioned either. McNeil all of a sudden turned into some big shot because he was on the countdown shows drooling over Gatti. Morales has his conflicts, but writes his stories in an hour after being on a conference call. The guy seems like he puts no effort into boxing whatsoever.
With Morales its comical since he writes for a third tier So Cal paper YET gets the treatment as if he was a god. Sure he has been on the circuit for a long time but thats one of my rants as well with boxing PR. Why in the world do you to continue to give some of these dinosaurs like Morales, Buffet Destroying Dan, etc so much carte blanche when they barely write anything signifigant? Seriously, PR people literally fawn over guys like Avila, Carlos Arias, and Morales but really they only reach a very limited audience now (the people who still read print looking for boxing). even worse they act like they are gods (with the exception of Avila) literally cutting in line in terms interviews, sitting there waiting for the PR people to kiss their ass bringing them the fighters, getting more time to do their thing etc Bill Dwyer, LA Times writer, was treated with such awe and respect I thought "wow this guy must be great" for the Pacquiao Solis presser. Yet when it came time to write his article it was more a shit on Pacquiao piece than anything that Top Rank could hang its hat on print media is ass
I rip on him for that all the time. I've gone so far as to have a glass of water handy for when he returns from his conversation with Rafael so that he can wash the taste of Rafael's nuts out of his mouth. My beef with Rafael isn't the same as Eaner's. I just don't like his attitude all that much. He writes alot for ESPN, so I accept the fact that he will be treated better. But drooling over a writer from the Newark Star Ledger with a circulation of 325,000 doesn't seem right when if you're lucky, you'll get any coverage. I've actually seen promoters offer to buy him dinner at ringside for a clubshow that he obviously gave no coverage for. But he's supposed to be a decent guy, so I'm fine with that I guess. Tim Smith is the worst of both worlds. A prick to pretty much everyone...wins the Nat Fleischer award for nothing. Barely writes anything for boxing...I know, not his fault, but that doesn't mean we should keep offering to shine his head for him. Morales' trips to Top Rank events are completely covered by Arum.
the first time i talked to him was when he sat next to me during some espn card and he was okay. the next few times i talked to him, he was cocky and acted like he was above everyone. i distinctly remember the time when i went to memphis for taylor-wright and i remember his fat ass storming through the buffet line and got all antsy and shit when i tried talking to him. i dont dislike the guy, but he's definitely not a guy i would go out of my way to talk to.
