This fight confirmed my previous thoughts, which is that Pavlik seems to reserve his power well.

Each punch he throws is hard, he has natural power, but only when he really feels it's the right time does he launch with everything he has. I think that's part of the reason he's able to throw so many punches as a middleweight, he preserves his power and energy well.

His punches seemed quite relaxed until that 7th round when he REALLY started throwing.

I think it's good not only to conserve energy but to lure the opponent into a false sense of security. Taylor didn't really taste Pavlik's power until the 7th round and then that was it, too late

Pavlik has Power from round 1 to 12...it's going to take a bad mofo to beat him at 160...to quote Jermain Taylor..

I agree. Kinda like the "sneaky quick pitcher". He consisstently hits the zone, touches the corners and then that 90 mph fastball comes in and it blows by ya.

He has different speeds..he doesn't throw his punches with the same intensions everytime...after the knockdown in round 2..he was just looking to touch Taylor..not hit him with anything hard..he wanted to get his brain back into position...

Pavlik seems relaxed almost to a fault...

When he was getting hurt / knocked down he really seemed indifferent... As if it was just a minor annoyance on his way to winning the fight. Even when he won, he didn't seem overexcited.

I think you make a good point, he has natural power. He doesn't seem to throw with alot of effort, but clearly they are damagin punches.

Agreed, I thought he almost looked defeated sitting on his stool before the final round, I misread that bigtime.

Being relaxed is a hell of a way to conserve energy though and persevere. Just look at Foreman in his early years vs. old man Foreman.

Absolutely. Nervous energy burns CONSTANTLY. Being relaxed can really be a virtue if you can manage to not cross the border into being TOO relaxed.

Obviously Pavlik seems to have mastered this as he clearly has fire and is a great finisher.

Relaxation is the absolute key, no question.

Kelly simply flows into and through his shots, from the legs up through the hips through the torso and full extension in the arms.

Pavlik has naturally big/heavy hands and huge shoulders as well which help with impact and leverage.

Contrast a Trinidad or a Pavlik or a Foreman with, say, a Mosley....who looks almost constipated when he throws his shots, using a whipping/slinging motion with the arms. He generates power, but not as effective (hence the accumulation) and it takes more of a toll on stamina - hence the "fighting in bursts."

    Peace.

 No, I think he's been dropped twice.

Did you catch him trying to make a face at Taylor in between the punches he was taking? Look closely....it's a riot.

He gets hit 2-3 times - then looks like he's going to mock Taylor - and bap! gets hit with 2-3 more shots which put him down.

with 1:30+ seconds left in the round...and Taylor couldn't finish him off..

I thought he was throwing hard, sharp shots in the first and second rounds...then almost got beheaded and the steam went off his punches for a while. Then the steam slowly returned as he slowly got himself right again.

What's funny is how people talk up power with guys like Miranda. Pavlik doesn't talk about his power, he just knocks out the MW champ. Pavlik has the power to KO anyone at 160 or 168.

    Yep...

Pavlik Tried to Pull a "Mayorga" & Got CLOCKED in the Process...

Dude Clearly WON the 1st Round & Got Caught Up Feeling GOOD about Himelf & the Crowd Chanting his Name...

Taylor LEGITIMATELY Buzzed Pavlik Initially, but REED DOUBTS Pavlik would have EVER Hit the Canvas, if Not for his BRAZEN, Dropping of the Hands Brainfart...

Pavlik seemed punch-drunk after the second round, lauginhg at his corner. He however seems to have great survival instinct and also the ability to recover quick

    Pavlik's power is overrated.

But Taylor was VERY sloppy in this fight, from the opening bell. Manny Steward has done nothing for ths kid...or perhaps the kid is just that bad.

Taylor was so open for the right hand it wasn't funny...it's a wonder he wasn't stopped sooner.

Nevertheless, I thought taylor was on his way to fulling my late round stoppage prediction when he got nailed by a punch that looked hard by not devastating and then he didn't recover.

I was shocked that he'd fall to pieces like that. Very disappointing end to the fight for me...but a very good fight, OBjectively.:bears:

What the hell fight were you watching? Pavlik was in CONTROL of the fight, except for in the 2nd. In fact, he OUTJABBED Taylor, after you said his jab would be a non-factor.

Your boy got exposed, face it. As for Taylor being sloppy, and leaky on the D. LOL @ you just noticing this NOW!

Me, Muzse, REED, and many others have been trying to tell you this for YEARS!

You overrated Taylor's power Sly... an issue we can discuss when you are not getting fucked with so much. Pavlik does indeed have good power. Taylor's problem was and is that he gets trapped in the corners and does not respond. You can't let that happen against a puncher. Winky did the same thing and should have won that fight and would have KO'ed Taylor if he had any power.

 Yes, it does look silly after watching the video that PUNK just posted.

But honestly...Pavlik was nailing Taylor with that right all night..it doesn't seem devatating to me. Peolpe were talking about his power like it was on the level of Nigel Benn, McClellan and Hearns. It's nowhere near that!:nono:

Pavlik knocks out and stops guys who have never been stopped or KO'ed before. That is not a sign of overrated power.

So Pavlik's power can be likened to Benn, McClellan and Hearns? Is that what you're telling me?

I know you probably can't remember who those guys were...so I have to excuse you a bit, but read up on them.

REED Won't Say that Pavlik's Power is "Overrated"...

    "However"...

If Hearns or McClellan were Landing THAT Many Right Hands, the Fight WOULDN'T have Went 3 Rounds....

Having said that, Pavlik is EASILY 1 of the 5-10 BEST Punchers In ALL of Boxing, Lb 4 Lb....
