Would Pavlik Get Any Credit If He Wasn't A Yank??

Personally, I've never seen a guy get his ass kissed so much. Joe Cal did to Lacy what Pavlik did to Taylor {and then some} and still Joe gets no respect. I wonder if Pavliks star-spangled passport isn't a little responsible for his "star" status. Well? WHats so special about a chinny banger anyways??

No, I mean if he was, Welsh, like Joe.

Fuck off if you are too American to participate in a serious discussion.

Pavlik just destroyed the undefeated, generally recognized MW Champion in impressive and pleasing fashion.

I hate to sound like a Calzaghe hater, but if you combine the entertainment factor of all his fights together you still wouldn't equal a single round of Pavlik versus Miranda or Taylor.

Boxing fans hate to admit it but they are in it for the savagery. Boxing fans have a blood lust that the sport helps feed. Watching Joe slap his opponents just doesn't stoke the same emotions as watching a heavy-handed banger like Pavlik crushing good opponents.

Or it could be the whole US versus Wales thing.

Ok, then how does it explain that just about everybody over here is rooting for Kessler over Calzaghe?

Help me out here, but didn't he just knock out an American?

Damn, Taylor actually fought for the US Olympic team so in terms of being American, he's got a slight edge on Pavlik.

Don't hate Americans because Calzaghe's popularity is shit in the states. Maybe if he had the balls to get his passport stamped he'd gain some red, White and Blue fans.

He KO'd an American that was in dire danger of losing to another NON-AMERICAN. Pavlik is your Knight On A White Fucking Horse cos he made sure, for the time being, that you didn't have another division featuring exceptional foreign champions. Thats why he is the darling of America.

PavliKKK being a white American is indeed the reason why he would be overrated alot at the moment.

    BUT

I think Calzaghe gets more credit than you realize and I doubt there'll be many people who would claim that Kelly is a better fighter than him.

Pavlik fought last night. Calzaghe fights very soon; if he wins in similar style, i'm sure he'll be hyped plenty.

Nah, if Pavlik was black, he would still be making a lot of noise. I think, plain and simple, that his being an American is the driving force behind the noise being made by the media and Pavlikites alike. Irony of Irony, Pavlik is a Czech name. ut don't tell the Yanks that.

Retarded. Lacy hadn't just fought Hopkins twice and Wright once without losing. Lacy wasn't 1/2 the fighter Taylor is.

What exactly is your argument? You're just being a whiny cunt because one of your favorite white Euros isn't getting the attention you think he deserves.

    Wait, what?

Calzaghe = 168 champion, recognized by most of boxing in that respect, and is facing the man considered his biggest in-division threat. He's in his thirties and this is his second fight of his career of this magnitude coming up, and Lacy was not considered a p4p kind of fighter; he was however considered the biggest possible threat at that time, and Calzaghe recieved a huge amount of credit for his domination.

Pavlik is 25 and this was his first, against a p4p guy according to many.

Notice that I haven't mentioned a nation yet?

You know FULLY well why Calzaghe gets ragged on, and it has less to do with him being in Europe and more with how long it's taken him to get to where Pavlik is despite on paper having an increased amount of overall talent. It's the same reason people joked about RJJ; it's why many percieve Mayweather that way now; it's why people will at some point people will do it to Pacquiao if he ever takes his foot off the gas pedal.

So for the true devil's advocate work...would Pavlik get credit? Yes, becuase after all a guy like Calzaghe got credit for his win depsite many people hating him...

Kessler will get alot of LOVE and credit if he beats CALSLAPPY...why? Because he comes to fight...and punches doesn't slap...and steps up in competition often.....took Calslappy years to do that....

Pavlik been boxing for a few years...and when his time came he step up and is now the MIDDLEWEIGHT champion of the world....

That's nonsense. Pavlik just made easy work of Miranda and Taylor in consecutive fights. He could be a Korean midget with one hand and his popularity would be the same.

White or black, he is a crowd-pleasing bomber that has proven to have an unyielding will to win. Fans like that. Period.

    Stop your whining. :nono:

Yes, he'd still get much respect.

    Calzaghe gets plenty.

    Peace.

Then if you already know, why make the thread and ask the question?

This is what gets me about these threads...you criticize people for "not participating in serious discussion" yet you have your mind made up and what you will do is ARGUE, not discuss.

Miranda got PLENTY of support - and he is not American.

He is simply a banger and an exciting one.

So there is something to that point.

    Peace.

What is this "KKK" crap? Are you so upset and bitter that Pavlik kicked the crap out of a fighter you were foolishly touting as a "great" champion that you are reduced to dragging race into it? You've posted MANY lame things on this forum, but you may have hit a new low here.

    Dude...who cares?

America has been the center of the boxing universe for AGES.

It is going to take time for the boxing world - and for the U.S.; which is still the center of broadcasting and boxing media - to get used to the globalization of it (and the waning of boxing in America).

What has been established for eons isn't going to be turned around in 5 or even 10 years.

So let go of the bitterness.

That being said, the European champs - especially at Heavyweight - are getting plenty of recognition in the "American media" and the press and fans have largely come to terms with European dominance in that division.

Now, separately - are you going to sit there and tell me that a British, Welsh, German, etc. fighter doesn't get DISPROPORTIONATE coverage in THEIR HOME COUNTRY???

    Come on, now.

And btw - all Pavlik did was REPLACE one American with another. There is no net gain there.

The reality still is that there are still relatively more American fighters and champions in boxing -- so they are going to get more coverage.

And if they're from America, some of that is natural to the nationalistic tendency of any country.

It's like you want "America" to suddenly drop everything and start disproportionately covering any and all European fighters.

    It ain't happening.

    Peace.
