I don't get what this exercise does. What really baffles me is the boxer is supposed to be punching the mitts but most trainers seem to be hitting the boxers gloves with the mitts at the same time the boxer is punching the mitts. Again I ask, what good does this do?
If that's the case shouldn't the trainer either move the glove making it harder to hit or at least hide the gloves behind his back pull them out quickly and make the fighter be able to quickly hit it before he puts it back. Wouldn't that be more effective than slapping the boxers knuckles with the mitts?:dunno:
It's just a load of crap really. Hitting mitts and sh*t is just fluff. People get a rise out of hitting things because mitts and bags don't hit back. Real training is done in sparring.
according to my trainer moving the mits toward the punch increases your hand speed and shortens your punches. :dunno: I believe him cause he knows what hes talking about, but i cant work out how myself either. Must just train you to retract the shots and reset your weight for the next punch quicker.
Bingo. It helps with hand-eye coordination and accuracy... But the main purpose behind mitts is to drill combinations, reactions to openings, counterpunches/counter combos and head/fist movement into your memory and your muscle memory. That's why it's the last exercise they do before going into the ring (plus it's a great warm-up). Peace.
