It all started in the 80’s in the heart of Mexico. He was a gangly 111-pound young man with law school in his future. But after winning 56 of 60 amateur fights it was obvious boxing was in his DNA. He successfully turned pro in November 22, 1989 in Mexico City and scored five consecutive knockouts over bigger, stronger, veteran fighters. But before his 6th fight something funny happened. Someone took a closer look at his paperwork; he was only 15-years-old. The kid’s name: Marco Antonio Barrera <!-- m -->http://www.fightbeat.com/article_detail.php?AT=507
I'm getting more excited for this fight as we get closer. Don't know why. I feel a lot of the time, opponents are fighting Pacman's fight as opposed to just boxing and using distance. I think Barrera is capable of doing well and even winning a decision if he doesn't lose his focus and sticks to a gameplan of boxing and moving rather than brainlessly brawling like Morales did.
good artlicle, but Manny will destroy MAB. I have enjoyed both MAB and Morales over the years as a boxing fan. But Manny is the new gun and they are the old guard. Its just as simple as age. What a great fight with both in their primes. opcorn:
That would be the smart thing to do, I just see Pac forcing him to fight his fight with sheer aggression and strength.
Watch the first fight. Even when MAB was fighting at distance he can't handle the speed. in fact when he got dropped on his ass in round 3 he was fighting from a distance.
great points, MAB will try to outbox PAC, and he should. If there is a weakness to PAC its his boxing skills. But MAB won't be the man to do it, his time has passed.
and STILL never saw the straight left coming. :: This will go longer, but won't be any different than the 3rd match with Morales...he'll spend so much time trying to get out of the way of the straight left, he gets clobbered with the right hook. He'll think Manny has 8 arms.
"Of course, Team Marquez is probably still in disbelief in how well Barrera handled Marquez for all 12-rounds. Many argue that this was the best Barrera we've seen in years and he handled Marquez better than Pacquiao (minus the knockdowns)." WTF!? ::
well carlos doesnt really watch boxing. he probably watched the highlights from youtube. there's no way he ordered the marquez-barrera ppv ::
Exactly. Barrera fought well the firt time around, he tried it all. The problem was that absolutely nothing worked
I've never agreed with that. I'll never say Barrera would have won - obviously not. But it was pretty apparent to me he wasn't at his best either physically or mentally. I said that way back then, too. Peace.
it was obvious that barrera was not prepared the first time. what he should've done was ask for an immediate rematch to redeem himself, but instead, he beat up little paulie then moved up for a more lucrative payday against morales. after that, he again sat on his throne until he got old.
He was perfectly prepared. Physically he looked as good as he always does, and in the 1st round he looked as good as he always does. He then started to feel Pacman's power, got knocked down hard, and then got the shit kicked out of him for however many rounds. He got his ass kicked fair and square. It was Manny that made him look "not himself". Manny is going to pound him again.
i thought he physically looked soft. how do you know he was perfectly prepared? in the midst of going through a divorce, his training camp had to be relocated because the gym was burnt down.
I've gone Pacquaio KO 6 but i' be a fool to write of MAB. Two differences between this and the last fight.... ....MAB apparently being under-prepared, which i believe ....Pacquaio being thoroughly outboxed by JMM If Barrera comes in, in better shape and follows Marquez's blueprint....then we might have an upset
The 3rd difference is MAB has worse stamina than he used to and is older. I didn't see JMM thoroughly outbox Pac but even if he did hypothetically it's not that relevant to this fight. MAB and JMM do not box even close to the same. MAB is much more conventional.
I distinctly remember observing - and many people also commenting - that MAB looked soft physically, and overall just a bit unfocused. I thought it showed even early in the fight as his punches seemed to lack their usual steam, crispness and accuracy even when Pacquiao was there to be hit. Just saw this fight the other day and I very much got the same impression. I also have always thought MAB took Pac lightly - I mean, he was "smaller", coming up in weight, looked there to be hit and controlled with a jab - I mean, he couldn't be any tougher than Hamed or Morales, right? :: I would have loved to have seen a rematch back in '04. Still, MAB gets credit for taking the fight now, as the potential final fight of his career. It's a much higher mountain to climb now. Peace.
a lot of people thought that barrera-pac I was supposed be a mismatch. i only remember Val picking Pac to win. pac was touted as an overrated guy who was only exciting to watch. barrera on the other hand was like top 3 p4p.
Yeah...the vast majority picked MAB (myself included). Pac was quality - especially after his win over Lehlo, one of my fave fighters - but I thought he was wide open for a jab and sound boxing and that the weight difference and MAB's superior skills would tell. What a HUGE fight Manny fought that night....that was awesome. Peace.
Like Val said, what exactly looked so wrong with Barrera before he got knocked down hard in round 3? After round 3 I agree, he didn't look good at all, and that was 100% because he had a Filipino war machine charging at him throwing hard punches every second of the round, and he didn't know how to deal with it, he was clearly discouraged and not up to the task. That was Pacman's doing. Before round 3 he looked fine, he didn't look slow, sloppy, unfocused or anything else.
