SOURCE: NY1 http://www.ny1.com/ny1/content/index.jsp?stid=1&aid=74195 Two police officers were shot early this morning in the Fordham section of the Bronx while trying to apprehend a man wanted for shooting two people earlier this year. Police say five detectives went to an apartment on Webster Avenue between East 187th and 188th Street in the Bronx to arrest Jermaine Taylor at around 5:30 a.m. Taylor tried to escape through the window. He dropped down two stories to the alley and fired at least six shots at three of the officers. The detectives returned fire. Detective William Gonzalez was grazed in the shin and Detective Daniel Rivera was grazed in the forehead. Both are 41-years-old and have been on the force for 20 years. They are both in good condition, and are expected to be released from the hospital soon. "I've spoken with both of them this morning and they seem to be doing well,†said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. “I'm always impressed by the courage and the sense of duty that I get when I visit wounded NYPD officers in the hospital." "These are three very lucky detectives,†added Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. “Detectives like Daniel Rivera and William Gonzalez and their partners put their lives on the line every day to keep to keep this city safe." Taylor fractured his pelvis in the fall. He also injured his hand, but it's not sure if that was from the fall or a gunshot. He was wanted for a shooting in front of a Bronx bodega in July. Police found seven other people inside the apartment who were taken in for questioning. They also encountered three pit bulls who were removed by emergency services.
