Pavlik should have lost if Smoger exercised the same judgement to stop a fight as he did with Jermain.

I really don;t get your point. Do you honestly think the fight should have been stopped in round 2? Or are you just bitching because they stopped it when they did? There is NO comparison between the 2 situations though so you can forget about trying to compare them. Pavlik even after he was stunned did avoid some punches and did some holding. He was still aware of what was going on. Taylor? Well he wasn't because he was gone.

Yes, do you honestly believe a fight couldn't be stopped after twenty punches and NOTHING thrown back in return? Then the guy grabs on to his arm for dear life, Smoger could have EASILY stepped in then.

 

Could he have stopped the fight? Sure any ref can stop the fight but it would have been a very premature stoppage. The results prove as much. you talk about all of these punches Pavlik was getting hit with but he avoided some of them and held on until his head cleared. I guess you like to see fights stopped to early.

 

Premature with 20 unanswered punches? Getting your head snapped back with no defense while not throwing back, is grounds for an automatic stoppage.

 

No defense? When you slip out of the way of punches that is defense, you realize that right? Granted Pavlik got hit by some of them as well but Taylor missed plenty as well. You can cry,whine and bitch all you want to but the right call was clearly made.

 

When your head goes back, your arms are at your sides, and only move to grab on to the other guys arms to hold you up from 20 punches earlier......it easily could have been stopped. You act like he wasn't getting hit while boobing and weaving, then countering :: He didn't throw a punch from 20 consecutive punches, which ironically almost all were some of the cleanest shots you can get hit with.

The fact that Pavlik was up at the count of two had something to do with why the fight wasn't stopped.

To further illustrate how basic Taylor is, after Pavlik got up it wasn't until the last 12 seconds that Taylor threw anything BUT a wide right hand or wide left hooks. It was as though he were punching at a heavy bag.

Contrast that with Pavlik's punch selection when he got Taylor hurt...jab, right hand, left and right uppercuts and lefthooks.

The difference is, Pavlik was throwing (and landing) at the openings he saw. Taylor threw the same basic punches and didn't look for openings. When Pavlik was badly hurt, Taylor could have EASILY landed hand body shots to bring down Pavliks hands (since Kelly as a reflex raised his arms).

Taylor got knocked out by a better schooled fighter. He had his chance but didn't know how to finish and once he got hurt he didn't have the knowledge or skill to be as resourceful as Pavlik to get himself out of the round.

That's one of the reasons I'm not terribly upset when prospects get knocked down because I want to see how they handle adversity and more importantly, how they adjust to assure they don't get caught in the same manner in the future.
