I shoulda ordered tonight's card but I'm saving up for Mosley-Cotto & PBF-Hatton. So instead I'm stuck watching these sorry ass heavyweights.
Your typical pre fight nonsense, plus a story about retiring the MSG ring, but it seemed to go on forever. Daniel Santos, Golota and McBride are all somewhat name fighters, why didn't they show their fights? Peter is getting whooped. Down again. TFK
It sounds like a pretty good undercard...Santos-Rivera, Golota-McBride and Meehan-Williamson all end in mid-round TKOs':.
Results? Mcline may be spent. His mouth is wide open and he looks tired. But Peter's head still doesn't look clear. Good fight so far. TFK
Early Results from NYC! By Matt Richardson and Jason Stern at ringside In a WBA super welterweight eliminator, Daniel Santos (30-3-1, 21 KOs) scored a brutal eighth round beatdown against Jose Rivera (38-5-1, 24 KOs). Rivera beat the count after being knocked down, but his corner threw in the towel. Time was 2:50. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Heavyweight Andrew Golota (40-6-1, 33 KOs) got back into the title picture with a sixth round TKO of Kevin McBride (34-6-1, 29 KOs). McBride had Golota seriously hurt in round one, but Golota weathered the storm. In round six, Golota tried the southpaw stance fo the first time, and his first punch (a straight left) rocked McBride. Golota then followed up with a volley of punches and got the stoppage at 2:42 of the round. "I proved tonight that I can still fight with anyone," said Golota after the fight. McBride commented, "I didn’t think the referee should have stopped it but I was having trouble seeing out of my eye. He really didn’t hurt me until the end....I thought that I had him out in the first round. It was close. I’m okay now." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WBA #15 heavyweight Kali "Checkmate" Meehan (33-3, 27 KOs) broke open a competitive fight with a sixth round TKO of WBA #4 DaVarryl "Touch Of Sleep" Williamson (24-5, 20 KOs). Meehan floored Williamson with a crushing right at the end of the sixth. Williamson beat the count, but was ruled unfit to continue by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Barry Jordan of the New York State Athletic Commission. "I was never going to lost this fight," said Meehan. "I felt better tonight than I did the night I almost stopped Lamon Brewster [for the WBO heavyweight championship]."
I don't know, it may have been because they figured there wouldn't be an audience going up against Pac-Barrera II.
Peter takes the 7th. McCline is starting to hold a lot. His chin is looking good, but I think his gas tank is nearing empty. TFK
Peter's won the last few rounds. I can't believe McCline hasn't looked hurt from some of these shots. Either he has more of a chin than I thought, or Peter isn't as big of a puncher as I thought he was.
The 8th was tough to score, but I think Peter took it. McCline's face looks like one of those clowns you throw footballs at on the boardwalk, his mouth is that wide open. TFK
Bernstein is off his game tonight, confusing rounds and calling McCline 'Whitaker' numerous occasions. TFK
Friggin' Jameel....this is his FOURTH chance at a title and basically has it in his grasp... And lets it get away from him AGAIN.
Huh. So you think that even though he stopped iron-chinned Jeremy Williams, he's not a murderous puncher? How could this be.
