He should just kill himself now  Showtime better stop saying that they are the new kings of boxing now too:doh:
oh, ok it makes sense now. I saw it on Fight News - it might be true, or it could be Lee Bates (Blades' advisor, who is also a writer for Fight News) jumping the gun for the sake of his site having the story first. Damn, I usually complain when HBO stages a conflicting show just to spite Showtime, but this would be one occasion where I'd encourage it.
Blades lost back in June to Erdei (TKO 11). Thanks boxrec. Besides that fight, he has at least 2 other televised fights. 7/9/03 losing a 10 round majority decision to undefeated Charles Tanner and 1/19/07 winning via tko7 over John R Williams. . Both of these latter 2 fights were shown on ESPN2. Can't say I remember any of them.
Wow...I record pretty much everything and even I doubt I have this one. If it's a crap fight, I don't bother recording.
Does Showtime think that Tarver is popular or something? Or that "anyone" wants to see him fight anybody other than Dawson? Man, I thought HBO was out of touch.
tarver is trying to make short cash and stay on the winning column to build up a significant payday against a guy he would probably lose against. he should stop fucking around and fight dawson or johnson.
Blades is awful. Slowest punches ever. I watched his bout with Erdei, flipped channels and he was still throwing the same punch, when I returned. I can´t believe Showtime would televise such garbage. On which channel was Tarver/Muriqi? :dunno:
tarver's last garbage fight was on showtime too. somehow, he and his promoter have managed to completely pimp showtime into broadcasting these non-performances by him against sht competition. reminds me of how RJJ pimped HBO in the late 90's and early 2000's.
tarver's no longer w/ that promoter (joe deguardia). i think he's recently formed his own promo outfit called AT promotions. he might have regressed since beating jones, but he's still somewhat of an attraction. showtime probably wants to have him winning so that they can bank on dawson to beat him on their telecast and keep him there as long as they can until hbo steals him like they usually do.
I'd rather see tarver fight bennie blades or even brian blades. then they could at least play on the tampa -miami rivalry.
BULLSHIT... Say what u Want about Roy, but @ Least he was Facing WORLD CLASS Competition...Even Ring Magazine had Roy's Opponents RANKED as Top 10 Lightheavy's... Tarver is Picking UNRANKED, ANONYMOUS Opposition...BIG Difference... REED
"Honey Boy" Blades just got stopped by Erdei. Has had no ammy experience either....and has fought no one (well, until Erdei :: ). And yes, there's a big difference between what RJJ was "doing" with HBO and what Tarver is doing.... RJJ's opponents were at least ranked at LHWT and often known....Tarver is reaching deep into the barrel. ::
RJJ was also calling himself the light heavyweight champion. Tarver isn't. That distinction carries a fair amount of weight when it comes to selecting opponents.
Tarver calls himself champion too. :tease: :: I was answering the parallel that another poster brought up....ain't the same.
   "often known." :: shouldn't that be, "always" in any discussion involving the #1 P4P in the world at the time? that's my point. his opponents were, "often" known, which is to say, "not always," known.
So you're going to latch on to a phrase to nitpick, eh? :: Kelly and Frazier are the possible two exceptions to the rule....and even then I believe Kelly was ranked. Peace.
