Hadn't seen this fight in its entirety and just did.

I only found 3 rounds to give to Diaz and I've watched it twice.

I had it 116-112. First round 10-9 for Morales since Diaz was KD'd but was winning that round handily.

And I felt I was generous giving Diaz the 10th, honestly.

How did you all have it?

Seems like an absolutely terrible decision....I expected to score a much closer fight.

Seems like Diaz got ALOT of credit for "landing" punches along the ropes that were ineffective and partially/totally blocked by Erik's hunched-over cross defense.

    Peace.

I thought Morales won quite clearly... but my buddy who I watched it with, who knows his boxing, had it for Diaz by a point.

LOL @ "innefective" and "blocked"...Morales took a beating and looked half dea din that fight on more than a few occasions.I wish more fighters punched as "innefective" as Diaz did in that fight.

Ugly, skilless bum or not, he landed a tonne of valuable leather on the dead Morales. Especially early and late, in which I thought he clearly dominated.

I do. But, admittedly, I was rooting for Morales. I thought he won at least seven rounds.

I thought it was a minor robbery, Diaz is very limited but he got a huuuuuuge heart.

    :dunno:

Morales' stamina was an issue and Diaz rocked him twice, sure....but sorry, I didn't think Diaz landed nearly as many clean punches as are apparently credited to him. It just didn't happen.

His cleanest most consistent shots were to the body, and I even thought quite a few of those were not clean shots.

Whether he was looking "half dead" or not, Morales was consistently landing the cleaner shots down the middle with the right, with the jab and the uppercut and blocking alot of Diaz' clubbing shots....

The very same Diaz would literally stand, smothered, right in front of Morales and continue throwing the same ineffective, half-assed shots over and over with no angles and no lateral movement while Morales simply covered up, ducked, used his shoulders and waited to hit him clean.

I don't really care how ugly or skill-less Diaz is....that's not my point.

To me this has similarity to De Leon-Penalosa (I find it weird you scored that one a draw - and then this one too).

And to a lesser extent, Mayweather-DLH.

If I woulda had Morales up by 1-2 pts, I'm fine with a loss.

Just expressing surprise that I had it this wide....twice.

    Peace.

IMO, there were enough competitive rounds that you can't really complain about the decision.

This was a draw for the same reason Penalosa v Ponce was a draw. The better fighter couldn't punch enough to beat out the scrapper. Landing cleaner shots is lovely...but you can't get outworked and hurt in the process.

I thought it was close. From where i sat the 12th round looked like a terrible beating. Then i watched on tv and was like that was a pretty close round.

it was a close fight but I thought Diaz won a clear decision. I remember after the fight Morales said that during the fight he got hit with so many shots that he never used. Which is why he wanted to retire.

I guess after some time he still has that bug thinking he can do better in a rematch.

I think Diaz will beat him worst in a rematch. Morales is worn out and that fight with Diaz just took more out of him. No way he improves in a rematch.

 I probably do, at least in this one.

But though I wasn't fully around for the aftermath I seem to remember quite a bit of an outcry saying Morales had won the fight.

    Outworked...but not outlanded. :nono:

De Leon was landing clean on Gerry to the body....Diaz (sadly enough) wasn't that effective.

There were certainly close rounds, I don't dispute that.

But I have a very hard time coming up with 6 Diaz won - let alone 7 or 8.

Morales looked tired as of the third round....he's just passed it and on the decline, PERIOD.

I thought it had little to do with the "beating" he took from Diaz, at least until the very late rounds.

And I'm not biased towards a style either - I had De Leon beating Penalosa 115-113 (and 116-113 on second scoring, though I don't "officially" count that). And you know Gerry's "my boy."

Did Erik get buffeted? Sure....Diaz mauled him and roughed him up, and at this stage in Erik's career even shots on the gloves or that are slapped at 135 will take their toll.

But you don't get rounds in your favor for mauling a fighter and pushing him back.

Simply put, Diaz was sloppy, sloppy as hell and I thought Erik showed a tad better defense than given credit for.

For all of Diaz' workrate, the punchstats were very even with Erik leading on overall connects (bolstered by his jab).

    Peace.

The Barrera nuthugger thinks it was a draw, the Marquez asslicker thinks Diaz won clearly, I think Morales won clearly, guess I´m right. :cheer:

In all honesty, this was a political boxing decision. Morales announces his retirement before the fight, which automatically DQ´s you from getting a decision and Bob Arum would have lost possession of the belt, that he can now hand over to Manny Pacquiao. If this was a regular fight, Morales gets the decision. I just hope Manny kills the clown Diaz in the process. Nothing worse than fighters, who get high on themselves for beating a washed-up legend, oh sorry, there is something, fighters who can´t even beat the washed-up legend and act like they just inheritated superstar status on a gift decision.

Exactly like you Donny, I had it 9-3 to Morales. I couldn't believe it. Erik was flat out robbed.

Erik - Chi was a close fight than this. And like this one, it was a fight he clearly won, but just didn't look too good and got roughed up in the process.

wow. Quite a few in press row had Morales winning, but none really more than by 1 or 2 pts. Joony and I had it 114-113, but that's only because I let him and JCC Jr's brother talk me into scoring the 1st round 10-8. Give Morales a 1 pt round instead of 2, and it's a draw.

i never watched a tape of the fight, maybe I should. But being it was a Top Rank PPV, curious to know how slanted the broadcast was. Yes, TR has paper on Diaz and the fight was in his backyard, but for all intent and purposes the night was about Morales winning a belt in a 4th weight class.

Diaz won for sure. He owned the ring. Morales spent the night just trying to keep him off him. And he didn't succeed. Good decision IMO.

It was not a good fight fr Morales either way. He could have got a decision, but he knew he was done. He got hit with punches that he never wouldve been hit with in the past and looked suggish from the opening bell.

His legs have been absolute rubber from the 2nd pacman fight onward. Really strange... Pacquiao 1 was the last time Morales had a firm base. Immediately in fight 2 with manny, his balance was off.

Yeah but Morales being that far past it is what made it a great fight. if that was on HBO, or if HBO treated it like a premium PPV rather than just attaching their name as a sponsor, it'd get a hell of a lot more shine.

Well, I agree with you here...I thought Morales won clearly. I can see 7-5 but honestly have a hard time with more. 6-6? Ok. Rounds were close and if you consistently prefer aggression and walking forward, ok.

I really think anyone who has Diaz "clearly winning" is scoring the fact that he "came forward" and THREW alot of shots.

    Just being honest.

At least some folks here see it similarly - and quite a few in press row had Morales winning though by a lesser margin.

    Peace.

I agree. I can't even give Morales a draw just for effort.

As cocky as he is this is the first time Morales didn't claim to get robbed. He admitted he got pounded like never before. Even more then all 3 Pacquiao fights. Which is why he chose to retire.

I hope he doesn't try a rematch because Diaz will beat him worst.
