Neither of those are nonsense my friend! There are in fact true. Lummox in his young years did in fact have faster hands than Wlad, and Leonard's hook carried more heat than Oscar's. Ray's power just didnt get as much attention as Oscar's cause Ray could do it ALL, whilst Oscar's claim to fame has always been just his hook.

 

Leonard didn't have as good a hook as De la Hoya. Leonard overrated his own hook against Duran, thinking that he'd take the Panamanian out with it, the way he did Dave Green.

 

Thats because Duran smothered Ray and prevented him from getting leverage on his hook. That, and because Duran had a terrific chin AND a great defense.

Ray's hook IMO woulda taken out Quartey.

 

Then how come Esteban DeJesus twice dropped Duran with the hook, while Leonard couldn't hurt him? Part of having a great left hook is being able to land it, you know...

Leonard would simply throw more against Quartey than Oscar did. The left hook has little to do with it.

 

It works both ways. Forrest was able to damn near KO Shane, whilst Oscar never seriously hurt Shane, does that mean Forrest has more power than Oscar?

 

DLH's hook was definitely better than Leonards.

 

In combination punching it is close (though Lewis definately has the better balance) but in single shots, Wlad's fist travels clearly quicker

 

How can anyone say Lewis' hands were much quicker than Wlad's?

I agree with Sly...I've always thought that Wlad's hands were/are faster. Wlad punched straighter, from shoulder to target, and brought/brings them back quicker....

Overall, I've always thought he has quicker hands as UGTBK points out (the degree to which he is faster is more debatable).

And DLH's left hook was slightly better than Leonard's. It doesn't mean SRL's was bad - it was very good.

SRL's power lay in his combinations and speed (along with solid physical power of course, but I'm sure you all get my point).

I don't buy that, though....Mosley was legitimately hurt both to head and BODY in that fight.

 

Looking at Pernell versus Lou Lomeli and Jake The Snake Rodriguez, you can tell Pernell had a bit of pop when he sat down. He moved Chavez backwards as well.

 

The head shots were after the headbutt, and if De la Hoya had been able to land a left hook that hard, the fight would've been over.

That's my point - Forrest was able to land some full-force, devastating shots. I don't know that DLH was ever able to land a shot like that.

And it wasn't so much the left hook in isolation that did it....it was the combination of that first right hand...then the follow-up left hook and then the devastating right uppercut up close with Shane against the ropes -- which means he never saw them coming.

DLH may have more power than Forrest in terms of snap and speed...but people forget Forrest likes to fall in behind his shots and literally THROW himself into them...and he connected with ALL of them vs. Mosley in that 2nd round. The big right, and the follow-up 2-3 shots.

This is the start of why you are wrong here.

The way Lennox fought as he got older makes it look like his hands aren't as fast as they would be otherwise. All you have to do is look at how Wlad fights now, and u can see that their handspeed's are the same.

I love how you say Wlad's hands are faster, and then quickly describe the illusion behind why they appear to be faster.

I see...so you can't break down WHY Lewis' hands were faster...we're just supposed to believe that Wlad's speed was an illusion and Lennox's hands were, in fact, "really" the faster ones.

Speed is a factor of many things, technique being one of them....right?

The fighter you're hitting could care less if you are more "naturally" fast or have "more fast-twitch muscles"....if the punch gets there quicker, it gets there quicker, period.

Lewis was pretty fast for a man his size.

Wlad is faster, IMHO, especially comparing the jab and the right hand.

And to be perfectly clear....even an early Wlad, when he threw the right or put together combinations, to me looked very, very quick - especially for a big man.

I've always thought he was faster than Lewis. Doesn't mean Lennox is slow....we're talking degrees here, not a chasm.

how bout watching the young Lennox Lewis fight, before he turned into the safety first clown of the late 90's-00's. It is clear he has solid handspeed for a heavyweight, and if u can't see the comparison of how Wlad's handspeed looks slower now that he fights like Lennox then I can't help you.

And the way fighter's throw a punch matters, relative to the speed of one's hands. Mayorga has decent handspeed, but anyone within 10 rows of the ring can see every punch 3 seconds before it lands because of the trajectory. Conversely people that throw precision straight punches can give the illusion of being faster because they don't waste as much movement

 

You laughed about comparing his handspeed to when he was younger :dunno: Lewis had fast hands and combo's when he was younger, faster then the big men of today :dunno:
