WBA to Introduce 11 round title bouts, half-point scoring

After the conclusion of their most recent convention, the WBA announced that it would introduce some a revolutionary scoring system that would allow half point scoring per round, which would hopefully lessen controversial decisions. Hence, a close round could be scored 10-9.5 .

Too bad we didn't have 11 round fights when Ruiz was fighting in every WBA title fight for five years.

 

Ugh. We're going to have wannabe' boxing historians saying that there were this many 10-9.5 rounds of Ali-Frazier II, and therefore Frazier should have won. Can you imagine all the trolls that are going to come out of the woodwork, saying that Hopkins would have beaten Jones using "modern" scoring?

 

Perhaps they should also have 11.5-round bouts

From the top of your head, name some majority draws without point deductions/knockdowns in twelve round fights, basically fights that ended 114-114?

I don't now what people got against draw, I like them and IMO should be more of them. The 11 rounds idea is extremely stupid but the half point system ain't bad IMO

Do you have statistics on how often even scorecards occur in twelve round fights, how often knockdowns and deductions occur? Statistics on odd number deductions? Statistics on even number deductions? Statistics on total KO percentages, total decision percentages. Statistics on 10-10 rounds? I´m sure you factored this all in to determine the likelihood of draws overall in 11 round bouts in comparison to 12 round bouts. :clap: :clap: :clap:

 

would u like a statistical analysis of the possibilities attached to odd as opposed to even rounds. The fact that with the 10 point must system in place, there would have to be a KD or point deduction for a draw to be possible.

How bout just considering Jermaine Taylor fights in the past 3 years, or DLH mosley 1/2 or ....

I don't think 11 or 12 rounds would have that much of an effect on the number of draws.

As others have pointed out, they don't happen all that often as it is and any change won't be significant.

 

Before the change to 12 rounds, draws were almost nonexistant in world title fights. I don't have the stat on hand, but it was a miniscule number. They are FAR more frequent since. Thats a fact.

I understand you're only focusing on the WBA here, but they weren't the only organisation to go from 15 rounds to 12. Look abroad.

Keep in mind that we are talking about a drop in rounds from 15 to 12.
Any drop from 12 to 11 is probably a lot less likely to make a noticeable difference.

As the facts I posted show, there isn't all that big of a difference between 15 and 12.

As the facts you posted show, it's easier to make claims than to substantiate them.
