WBA to Introduce 11 round title bouts, half-point scoring

Mathematically an even number of rounds HAS to increase the odds of a draw, no?

 

Of course, but thats not even it. It's just whats happened. Less rounds has = more draws. Fact.

 

Closer to zero rounds, sure, I'd agree that it has to.

But as you get further from zero, other factors come into play...even rounds, knockdowns, penalty points, etc. And how they interact with the number of rounds is not obvious.

And after too long, it's not going to make much of a difference at all. It looks like going from 15 to 12 made a small difference.

But what if this difference is only because there are more knockouts in 15 round fights because they last 25% longer than 12 rounders?

 

That was easily one of the biggest positives of the 15 round system. More KO's = more fan appeal.

 

If Sam Peter fought in the era of 15-round fights, he'd have a couple of KO losses on his record.

 

If Rocky Marciano fought 12 round fights he would have lost to Jersey Joe Walcott by decision.

 

If Rocky Marciano was black, he'd be Sam Peter.
