A good performance. Nothing more. Not on the level of what Leonard did against Hearns or nothing, but a good solid performance that was a clear win.
that has nothing to do with it. how do you characterize his win? seeing as how he promised it would be brutal? and that if odh hadn't stopped jabbing he would've easily won?
So what alot of guys promise shit then don't deliver. You understand Floyd says alot of shit to sell fights right. Floyd done what he had to do to get the job done. He didn't fight like a total bitch anyway. He stood on the ropes and let De la flurry away. Remember De la was the bigger man is Floyd suppose to brawl with De la.
Well isn't that kinda like Floyd saying it would be a massacure then it wasn't. Floyd didn't do a brutal massacure and you didn't get your pick right.
Impressive. He did a great job. Especially from where he started. He may have not been use to the weight and was being safe, but he was in there.
Why ask for opinions in a thread then bitch when people don't agree with you. Yeah 2 of the greatest fighters ever are jokes. Having great amatuer and professional careers in a sport as hard and brutal as boxing makes you a joke.
...amazing. It was simply amazing.People on this board (guys like Double Z) gave Floyd no chance in hell.None whatsoever. ODLH would destroy PBF, they told us. In view of what happened in real fight (clear win by PBF), PBF's performance was nothing short of amazing (according to guys like Double Z, at least....)
It was very similar to Buster Douglas performance in Tyson fight. A guy who no one gives a chance pulls out a victory by clearly and convincingly beating the guy so many people picked to destroy him (at least Double L did) Even PBF's haters admitted ODLH's defeat after the fight.....Sure, they later attempted to claim that PBF didn't REALLY win.....but their first reaction was very revealing....
It was good. He got the job done. Obviously Double L did a shitty job with this poll so i couldn't vote for that.
royyjonesjrp4pno1, do you think Double L's bitterness stems from the fact that he gave PBF NO chance in that fight, and then, after PBF got done with ODLH, Double L's inability to, once again, admit his complete incompetence when it comes to picking a fight and evaluating fighters?
Depends how you regard PBF. I would imagine if u regard him as one of (ot THE) G.O.A.T, then u would have to say that getting a very close dec over a past-prime & inactive for 2 yrs DLH was less than impressive @ best.
Impressive! This is a guy who's naturally a much smaller man and he moved up to 154lbs when he's really a Jnr Welterweight at best, and was never hurt and won 8 rounds.
Dude, if U're N the Business of Holding "Promises" AGAINST Fighters, YOUR Favorite Fighter has a SHITLOAD of Unfilled 1's... MORE than Floyd, in Fact... REED
COMICAL:: ... U DO Realize that HISTORY will Regard Floyd AND Roy Jones as BETTER Fighters than DeLa, Don't U?? REED:dunno:
It wasn't a disgraceful showing, but let's face it, he DID fight not to lose. Even REED has called it unimpressive. Not once in that fight did he ever go for it, and look to make a statement, or take Oscar out etc. And this was an aging, inactive, part time boxing promoter. It seems a worrying trend in boxing these days, fighting not to lose, a trend being helped by Floyd.
I agree with you mws, except for the last part. Floyd's not setting the trend, it was one of the last winning performances to turn out like that. Barrera tried it to a degree in the Pac rematch, but fighting to not get knocked out (not unlike Roy in the 3rd Tarver fight). I always classified Floyd-GLH as both fighting to preserve a rematch more so than one going all out for the win against the other. Either that, or they left it all at the negotiating table rather than the ring. The sad thing is, come December 9, Floyd-Hatton will be the PPV success but the shittier fight, while Cotto-Shane will profit but not quite overwhelm at the box office, though in the end give you your money's worth and then some.
I said this before...you'll be pleasantly surprised with the Floyd-Hatton fight. It's impossible for that to be a "shitty" fight.
