Anyone else notice Slappy seems to have unnaturally heavy hands?

he throws his punches strange. and he's constantly conferring with the ref. could his tape be off?

And then what's the stuff that you're going on about in that first post? You think he has no tape under his gloves (and NO ONE KNOWS about it?), and the ref is in on it and that's why he throws "strange" punches?

I've never seen a worse thread on a boxing related forum in all my days.....

I think Calzaghe's hands are fairly heavy. So although he tends to slap and doesn't load up on shots, his workrate and relative heavyness of his hands allows him to hurts guys anyway.

 

REED, I think this is the point Double's making...despite Calzaghe's less than optimal technique, he can still hurt opponents (though Joe doesn't ALWAYS slap).

That said, I don't know what the "tape being off" is all about. ::

 

As I have told you, modern fighters are strong enough to hurt their opponents with slaps so slapping is not an error anymore

calzaghe is good at varying his shots between "slaps" and hard punches and you can tell he has heavy hands when he wants to

he wings that left hand sometime - like he's tossing a ball. those are the shots you have to worry about. his quick flurries are nothing - all for show. but like some have said, he mixes in those winging shots that seem to hurt. just seems like he's wielding something a little extra, kind of like Tito used to do.
