I'm a fan of someone who plays basketball the day they have to fight, not a fan of some faggot who dances months ahead of a fight and wants thug credibility :nono:

 

odd, the Lucas fight was one of the few Roy fight nights during that time that left me disappointed.

As far as "street cred" - both of them make it a forced issue, but Floyd is a better fit in the hip-hop community, than is Roy. Floyd's "Yep" song and video may be shit, but the video is fairly indicative of the life Floyd lives today. Whereas Roy grew up country, yet thinks all it takes is to turn a baseball cap backward or to the side, and voila, he's a rapper. ::

 

And yet, he's better than Floyd. ::

Floyd "fits" the image because he's got high profile hangers-on....in truth...he's really playing second fiddle to Fiddy.

Only you would want to think it is "odd" where I was clearly showing what category I fell into. no i understand why you're a fan of Roy and not so much for Floyd. The only reason I said "odd" was in regards to your reference - one of only two times from the late 80's until 2000 where I was left disappointed from a Roy Jones fight (the first Griffin fight being the other). had you mentioned any other scenario than that one (b-ball by day, fighter by night), I basically would've said "agREED" and wouldn't have paid the Lucas fight any mind.

I've never been a fan of either fighter, but the abilities of both can't be denied.

I think Jones at his peak was the better fighter. But I also think that Mayweather will not suffer the type of brutal KOs that Jones did because he is less reliant on his physical gifts than Jones and is more of a BOXER than Jones. I see Mayweather as the kind of fighter who, if he continues to fight when he begins to slip physically, will learn to adapt his style to account for that. Once Jones started to slip physically...his slide has been dramatic and he hasn't achieved much sense...except for a payday against another former star whose skills have also slipped dramatically.

Roy Jones was poetry in motion, he could take down any fighter in a range of ways. He was also too damn smart to take too many hard fights.

Floyd is a gifted boy with an oversized ego. His fights are generally one-sided, dull and forgetful. I find him completely objectionable.

 

In a 'boxing' match, Jake. Remember in the opening seconds when Cliff grabbed him and they both fell down to the canvas? What happens if that was the street? Clifford pulled a gun and tried to shoot a police officer. The guy obviously is f*cked in the head.:: You don't f*ck with guys like that on the street.

I don't think Floyd is smart with money at all. He'll be dead broke in 10 years.

 

That could be due to 50 being held back during his prime, when he was surviving basically on the mixed-tape and bootleg level (including 50 bootlegging his own CDs and tapes :: ).

I never met him, but know a lot of people that have done (or attempted to do) business with him, and very few had anything bad to say about him, besides the fact that he's been putting out bullshit the past few years.

Floyd and Roy both worked harder than probably 99% of fighters out there.

Roy was thrown in the ring as a young boy and literally BEATEN by GROWN MEN that his dad would make him fight..

both of these guys have REALLY paid their dues so their confidence or what you sense as "entitlement" comes from a LIFETIME of work

yeah he was nice behind the mic once upon a time. so much that his first major release was a huge letdown (to those who still give a shit about GOOD hip hop, anyway), even though his bank account suggests otherwise.

The bootlegging came when he felt the label he was with, was shortchanging him. He wasn't happy with the percentage he got from each sale, so he sold his own shit on the street for something like 300% profit. Illegal, but he was right from a financial sense. ::

 

Gotta give him props for doing well selling his music on the street and then blowing up, although he's no Todd Shaw.

Yes exactly..

They are both quick, elusive, and dominant... but they are totally different fighters!! Roy is far the more appealing fighter to watch in my opinion... I'm not a Floyd fan but very big Roy fan.
