personally i've wanted to see ca;zaghe liquidated for the past number of years. in just 8 short hours, i may be watching it live
not rooting either way. A Kessler win would probably be better for at least boxing's immediate future, but a Calzaghe win holds more historical significance.
Kessler....simply because I've been a bigger fan of him and his style for longer. I don't mind Calzaghe but prefer Kessler.
Roy Jones accepted a 40/60 offer to go to Wales and fight Joe. Even when Roy is being ducked hes the guy doing the ducking. Have fun watching Tito eat counter rights and lead left hooks for 36 minutes on January 19.
wow another person taking an illogical and false shot at a great fighter. Roy Jones was accused of alot of things, but people who followed know that he legitimately "ducked" one guy, Vassily Jirov. Other than that alot of the 168 people simply refused to fight him, McClellan because of friendship, Benn because Benn wouldn't go through with it, etc. As I said he actually "ducked" one fighter, and if you really are a trinidad fan, how could you possibly think he has a shot in january given the performances he's put on in the last few years?
Tito didn't beat Winky because of friendship. Hey, if that's the excuse for McClellan it works for Tito too. Tito only has two loses on his record against very tough guys with good defense. Roy's defense is weak. He'll try to stay on the outside and use his speed to beat you. I expect Roy to use a solid jab to keep Tito on the outside. I'm looking for Tito to stay close to Roy and bang him to the body. Watch for Tito to keep Roy on the ropes where Roy is at this weakest. Roy hates to be hit and that happens the most when he's on the ropes because his defense is weak and he can't use his speed to avoid punches. Tito will eventually break Roy down with body shots and by the 11th expect Roy to be knocked out. I won't even get into the Roy ducking because this has been discussed to death. But you know there are plenty of ways of ducking people including outpricing yourself or leaving the states. Cupey
Those are not analogous cases at all. Now if you wanted to say there could be some comparison to Shane and Winky, then fine, but Tito and Wright had no relationship to speak of, other than Winky winning every second of a 12 round fight with him. Roy and McClellan were friends, it'd be like saying Vitali was ducking Wlad in 2002. Have you ever watched trinidad fight someone who uses movement? Even at this age Roy is still able to land a jab, and keep distance, all Tito has shown since before and after the retirement is that he eats jabs for breakfast, and his robotic plodding style doesn't work against people with a defense. How can you say Roy's defense is weak? It may be unorthodox, but his defense is still one of the best assets still available to him. Oh and "two losses" tells me you think he on the DLH fight as well, why do people insist on acting like groupies? yes well this is the kind of unresolved and unsubstantiated sewage people who don't have good reasons for things say. Roy may have been choice in his fight selection as he got older, but you could say the same thing about almost everyone. Trinidad should be admired for fighting everyone he could, but Roy shouldn't be bashed for not making fights where there are no legitimate grounds for saying he ducked a guy. The only guy he ducked was Jirov, and if thats enough for you to harp on him or then idk.
I more or less agree but RJJ also gets partial responsibility for RJJ-Michalczewski not happening (as does Dariusz himself). Both share the blame. Peace.
They absolutely had a relationship before their fight. They were good friends. Vargas and Trinidad also had a friendship, but not quite as strong. Didn't McClellan beat Roy Jones as a amateur. So they were friends enough to fight then, they could have done it aftewards. only Roy nuthuggers buy into that friendship things. Friends Fight if the Money is Right. How did he do against Movers? Let's see, he beat Oscar De La Hoya and lost to Bernard Hopkins. That's about it. 1-1. Other guys that were movers he beat as well, but these were the A guys. It's amazing that when Jones has a weakeness it's called unorthodox, when Tito has one he's a plodder and one dimensional. It's amzing how that slow plodder is a champion in 3 different weight divisions and didn't need steroids to do any of it. Jones is a dirty cheater who got busted for roids and hit somebody while they were down. What a piece of garbage. Then he doesn't give anybody a rematch, and the first time he does he gets KTFO. You should stop nut hugging, Tito is going to KO the fraud and we'll probably never see you here again. Oh, and feel free to add Buster Douglas to that growing list of people he evaded. The list keeps growing. Cupey
I don't put any stock into the Roy Ducked the World bullshit claims. But slow down on the Roy-McClellan scenario. They were friendLY with one another, but comparing it to Wlad and Vitali (or any boxing brothers tandem) is ridiculous. McClellan certainly had no problem whatsoever gunning for Roy, which was the plan had he gotten by Nigel Benn. Roy, while receptive to the idea once McClellan announced he was moving up to 168, wasn't up for it as much as G-Man; maybe it was due to friendship, or maybe it was due to McClellan handling him with room to spare in the ammys. Regardless, the friendship angle only seemed to play one way. Tito and Winky were friends/friendly with one another, and are still friends. Lots of fighters are friends, but still make fights happen if the right opporunity presents itself. Byrd/McCline, or even Byrd/Williamson would be a closer comparison to Wlad/Vitali than is Roy/McClellan. Anyway, let's try to steer this thread back on course. Who you rooting for tonight?
Id be interested to see Calzaghe's reaction to losing, all indications say that he would not be able to handle it at all, I'd like to see him throw a Zab Judah / Fraud Mayweather (in advance) styled bitch-fit.
