    Disgraceful.

That's the first time I know of Showtime spoiling a result on HBO. I thought they were above that bullshit.

and speaking of spoiling results...i'm not taking any chances...have a good night all

:tease: Hey, I'm in good company, I think Calzaghe's head movement and unorthodox style threw Kessler off, Pavlik is a lot more plodding and straightforward, Kessler would fare very differently

Calzaghe gets the benefit of workrate, both on the cards and in punch stats. But that's not new and not limited to Calzaghe.

    I had Calzaghe winning 7.

    7-4-1.

    Great fight.

    Peace.

Haha, that´s the round, where Kessler hurt Calzaghe with the huge uppercut. If you think Calzaghe won that round, you should have it a shutout.

I think Pavlik would outbox Kessler.

Some of you were fooled by Kessler's alleged fundamentals.

He is too robotic to be a great boxer. Pavlik might LOOK sloppy sometimes, but make no mistake, he is a technical fighter.

He has skill, timing, and he's a thinking fighter.

I would be just as confident of Pavlik beating Kessler as I was Calzaghe.

You have gotta be kidding me, MWS.

If Kessler clearly won ANY round, it was the 4th!!! My God - are you serious?

Kessler pounded him that round...he won the exchanges, landed clear counter-combos inside and landed those hellacious uppercuts.

THAT ROUND is the reason Joe came out in the 5th and focused on boxing and taking away Kessler's jab.

    Peace.

Oh actually, I take that back. I got it confused with round 5.

That was clearly kessler's round yep.

Round 1 and 2 were close, but Calzaghe's. I thought Kessler won 4 and 12.

10 rounds to 2, though I could see 8-4. Kessler won no more than 4 rounds though.

Hahaha, yep you're right, I got confused for a second. That was perhaps Kessler's best round.

The 5th was very close....Calzaghe edged it because of his jab, but Kessler landed some clean, hard counters. Close round.

Kessler won the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 12th....and you could legitimately say he won the 8th in spite of being hurt at the end by that body shot since he had won to that point (I scored it even).

I can "understand" giving the 1st to Calzaghe, but Kessler won the 2nd CLEARLY behind his jabs and rights.

    Peace.

Donny, there's no doubt that Kessler won the 4th and 12th, clear.

But rounds 1 and 2, hmm, they were close but I thought Joe still simply landed more punches.

If you have the fight on tape, simply watch 1 and 2 again and see if you still think Kessler won them.

Also with due respect Donny I told you a while ago, that while yes Kessler does everything pretty well, he is just not THAT good.

To be honest the fight looked exactly as I thought. Kessler is a SOLID fighter. Big, strong, decent fundamentals.

But that's it really, he doesn't have that specialness that makes a fighter great. Love him or hate him, Calzaghe does.

Aside from the odd flush shot from the Dane, it looked like a pretty easy fight for Joe. Robin Reid gave him a tougher fight.

agREED on Kessler. I hadn't see him fight prior to tonite and I was curious to see what all the hype was about. Like you said....Kessler is a solid fighter with good skills, but doesn't have the look of a special fighter.

Reid never made calzaghe stop and think like Kessler did.

On two occassions Calzaghe was hurt and needed breathing space.

I watched the Reid fight live and I never felt as worried for Joe as I did tonight.

Kessler thinks he {Kessler} performed badly, but I still think, in the first 5 rounds, he gave Joe a lot more to think about than any opponent has. Apart from 1 minute of the Byron Mitchell fight, Calzaghe has never been in more danger than he was tonight vs Kessler. Kessler can take you out with one shot.

I'm glad you agree. Kessler pretty much looked the same as he always does, he was just in with an excellent fighter.

:nono: Uh, "being known" isn't the reality when he loses rounds to Judah and even Scrubdomir, ..."shut outs for all" is an awful easy whip of the tongue.

    A couple of comments:

    1) Pavlick and Kessler would be a very different kind of fight but I tend to agree with Mex that Paclik has more on the nut than it appears and he probably takes Kessler. Pavlik might have a higher punch output than Kessler, at least the same ahd Pavlik has at least the same power even with the weight move up. Pavlik is also more aggressive. Kessler lost tonight partially because he lacked the ability to go after Joe at times.

    2) Joe looked great but frankly if I were Hopkins I would take a fight with him... Hopkins would pressure Joe a lot more. I now think Joe beats Winky easily but I think Hopkins could take Joe. There were many times joe got cute with Kessler and Kessler ran away.

I say this because I would love to see Hopkins fight Calzighe.

dsimon, I like you n all, but sometimes you say the daftest things.

    Hopkins would PRESSURE Joe?

Hopkins throws around 10 punches around, and against a world class opponent tonight Joe was throwing 100 punches some rounds, and over 1000 punches in the fight

I love Hopkins, and he is an incredible fighter, especially still for his age, but Calzaghe would outwork and outslick him.

Exactly. And there were other close rounds....and Joe himself admitted he was having trouble in the 12th.

Reid was just awkward and ugly.

No one's arguing that Kessler is an all-time great or some legendary fighter....it's like Calzaghe fans get offended if ayone picks against their man and feel the need to widen the score of victory and then downplay his opponents.

Which then cheapens Calzaghe's win. :dunno:

Calzaghe is now the undisputed champion at 168 and just beat a unified titleholder that has beaten 2-3 top #10 ranked super middleweight opponents.

I can understand some of that reaction given how much Calzaghe gets criticized on this board. I get it.

But that's not everyone - and some of that criticism, until relatively recently, has been justified.

Some of us pick against Calzaghe because we believe he might LEGITIMATELY beaten....not because we "hate" him.

That I recall, I have never picked against Joe until today...and that includes Lacy.

    Peace.

Donny, you may or may not remember - I have never been a Calzaghe fan.

In fact, I'm still not really a Calzaghe fan.

He's not a fighter I warm to, like say Hatton or Pavlik.

But I finally realized just what a good fighter he is.

I was not offended at all Donny, I was honestly just surprised that people like you, who know their stuff, saw Kessler as such a special fighter and thought he'd beat Joe.

I must have asked you and Musze and co a dozen times "I don't know what you see in Kessler".

And well, I was proved right.
