I was going to post this yesterday, but I thought I'd leave it to the next day to dampen the knee jerk reactions a bit

What do you think? Who is Britain's best?

I admit, I am more of a Hatton fan. And since he passed his acid test with flying colours against the fighting Rat, I considered him better.

Now I am not so sure.

    Calzaghe is a formidable fighter.

I never used to like Calzaghe. I KNEW he was good, but I thought he wasn't good enough to warrant the amount of shit he talked, and the fact that he wasn't fighting anyone.

Now those things combined, meant Calzaghe wasn't the most likeable fighter.

But a few years ago I realized he was the goods.

And now, age 35, theoretically a few years past his prime, he takes on a young undefeated fellow champion, a bit strong guy who is hungry and can box, and just outclassed him and out toughed him.

He is an amazing fighter. He threw over 1000 punches against someone like Kessler, and age 35.

And he is still REALLY fucking quick for a 35 year old super middleweight. His handspeed and reactions especially, are superb. Half the time he had his hands at his waist, and consistently made the fairly accurate and big punching Kessler miss over and over again.

He is one of the best unorthodox boxers of modern times. He has quite an American style, but more awkward. He has a very loose and athletic style, not dissimilar to Roy. And somehow he's at the top of his game age 35.

So as of now, who do you rate higher?

Right now I would have to say Calzaghe. Obviously that may change if Hatton convincingly beats Floyd.

better fighter is Calzagne........since hatton is a cheater and a stinker, rather than a guy with any skill

greater fighter is Hatton.......since his win over Tszyu makes his resume better than anything Calzagne ever did

How can this even be up for debate?

Well until this Kessler fight, Hatton had a better resume and more consistent performances, so absolutely it can be up for debate.

Although having said that, I think Chris Eubank is a better fighter than Tszyu. The only problem is, that was a LONG time ago for Calzaghe, and he was probably further removed from his prime than Tszyu was.

Kessler and Tszyu I would rank similarly.

Calzaghe without a shadow of a doubt.

Hatton has had arguably better wins so far (TKO/KO over Tszyu and Castillo respectively) but Calzaghe is a better fighter, period.

Tszyu is the only 'arguable' one,.. Hatton's win over a faded Castillo dont mean that much.

After Hatton's hook to the body makes PBF roll on the floor, you have to change your picks again

I like both but Joe is a better all round figher and more entertaininng.

After last night I pick Joe But Ricky has the opportunity to reclaim that top spot against PBF

    One word.
    Collazo

A bigger, smart opponent, determined to fight his fight, had Ricky in difficulty, a difficulty which seemed to grow as the fight progressed.

Kessler was big and smart too, and Joe started tough, made adjustments, and figured him out.

Joe is better because Joe is smarter.

Calzaghe has always been the better fighter. He has always had more skills and is showing it at an older age when most aren't supposed to.

Hatton is good at what he does but it has more to do with imposing his will on opponents. NOt so much being an all around fighter. He is also in his prime. Can't inmagine Hatton being this effective when he is 35.

well the two times he stepped up competition was against Tszyu and Castillo. REgardless of what you think of them. alot of people picked them to beat Hatton. But Hatton stopped both of them.

That was my point. He looked like shit against scrubs but when he steps up he looks better.

I expect Floyd to beat him soundly but Hatton will give him a fight. Which is what you can hope for in this fight.

Well hes effective because he cheats. When he beats an elite fighter without wrestling ill give him credit.

I agree he used rough tactics against Tszyu. But regardless he beat the pride out of him and stopped him.

he didn't cheat against CAstillo. :dunno:

Le'ts remember how many people thought Hatton would lose against those guys.

by the way you can expect him to use rough tactics against Floyd. Being Vegas in wont' fly like it does in Manchester. But will use it regardless.

Hopkins is a damn good boxer and also likes to use rough tactics. Some guys just like using them regardless of how much talent they have.

    Better fighter JOE Calslappy

Better Carreer as of Novermber 3, 2007 Calslappy

But if RICKY HATTON beats Mayweather that will shit on anything Calslappy ever did...even if he lose to Mayweather but goes on to beat one or two more TOP guys in the divisions he would have a better career than Calslappy...

    JOE wasted his prime...

If he beats Floyd by out fighting him then sure it does. If he wins by holding and fouling that doesn't put him above Joe.

If he clinches 30+ times around and hits Mayweather low over and over that don't put him above Calzaghe.

Im cool i give credit where its due. If Hatton fights like he claims he does which is like Juan Diaz ill give him credit. Holding Floyd like he is his girlfreind don't impress me.
