Punches that put the opponent away or dropped them that you would have thought wouldn't have been a big deal.

    Tarver against Jones
    Hopkins body shot against Oscar
    Forrest against Mayorga

I thought Tarver/Jones was a great shot. Tarver got full extension as Roy was pulling straight back. :nono: I would argue that the Jones/Johnson KO fits this thread a little better.

Agreed on Hopkins/ODLH. Forrest/Mayorga was a combination of the KO shot and a good shot that Mayo landed moments earlier. Forrest was already a little buzzed when he went down.

You must be joking about this one.

Hopkins against DLH I'll give you. The Golden Cross Dresser clearly took a dive.

The Mayorga shot that dropped Forrest wasnt devestating, but it landed on Vernon's temple which made it devestating. Just like the temple shot Tyson dropped Saverese with that didnt seem devestating.

That wasn't to the temple, that was a glancing shot to the side of Lou's forehead. Likely a dive or he was scared and wanted his payday. He figured he'd better get back up because the shot that dropped him didn't catch him flush enough and people would yell 'fix'.
I remember some of the guys in the front row turned to eachother with an expression of "What the f*ck was that?" after Lou fell.

Hagler/Hearns. Tommy was off balance and dazed, but the punch Hagler hit him with didn't seem hard at all yet Hearns went down like he got hit by a truck.

Roy Jones/Glen Kelly. That behind the back punch was BS. I was at that fight. It was nice too look at, but that punch was not a knockout blow by any means.

True, plus the way the ref checked Forrest's condition was among the dumbest things I have seen. He held up two fingers and pulled them apart - how were Vernon's eyes supposed to look?

I disagree with the first one. The punch Tarver landed on Jones was picture perfect.

considering the unbelivable damage they did, Tyson's hooks on Berbick & Tubbs didn't look that hard. Temple shots both.:blobbox:

Riddick Bowe - Herbie Hide. The punch in 3rd round that put Hide down for the first time and changed the course of the fight. It still looks like it didn't even hit him.

    Also, Vitali - Norris

It wasn't a punch. Hide just threw himself on the ground for no reason other than he was terrified of Bowe.

Perhaps so, but he was clearly in command for two rounds, buzzed Bowe and took some hits from him without trouble. then just something happened and he gave up. Bowe landed a rabbit punch, but it didn't look that hard

I love Herman's herbits but, his chin is dangerously bad, you dont have to hit him flush, you dont have to hit him in a certain place, you just have to "knick" him right and he'll go down paralized,..he's pure offense, like a sea-wasp, a fatal sting, but could die over something as little as the fluctuation of the current.

I'll tell you exactly what happened....

Hide didn't win the first two rounds...Bowe gave them away. Bowe was just feeling him out and stalking him and waiting for him to slow down. Hide was giving it everything and couldn't even buzz Bowe let alone hurt him and he got discouraged. He tried to touch gloves with Bowe after some infraction and Bowe showed no interest and just kept stalking him. That's when Hide knew it was "on top".

Hide...who's known in east London circles (I used to see him often in Walthamstow and so know him to a certain extent) as being the DUMBEST person ever. He was hoping for an opportunity to fall on the canvas because he wanted out of the fight.

Bowe, who was just relaxed and patient, didn't give it to him as soon as he wanted and so in a clinch...Hide pretended that he was hit and just fell to the canvas in teh worst acting job in the history of championship boxing. Bowe was confused, the ref was confused. We were all confused. The only one who wasn't condused about it was Hide.

    The rest is history.

Herbie Hide COWARDLY gave up the WBO Heavyweight title without a fight...

yep. If we have to mention Jones being KO'd then the Glen Johnson fight would be a more appropriate response. Of course, there were other elements that went into the knockout. But the punch itself wasn't exactly the right hand heard 'round the world.

Tubbs was already hurt from the right hook to the body, right uppercut to the head combo that Tyson landed shortly before. The left hook just finished it.

I agree that Tyson-Berbick didn't look too hard. Those shots high on the head can do serious damage even when they don't look like much.

I have to disagree there. Hagler caught Hearns with 3 straight right hands. The first was a leaping right over a lazy jab that landed on the temple. Then Hagler ran in with another right hand, and finally the 3rd right hand finished him off.

Hearns's legs weren't the same after round 1. Or if you listen to Manny, they weren't the same since the dressing room.

It's the funniest of the "fall down and collect my paycheck" performances. Cawley even fell after landing a punch and Rahman missed it. Then Rahman's jab sent Cawley sprawling back like it was the G-Man hitting Jackson with a left hook.

    Others:

Mike Tyson on Mark Young. I didn't actually see the punch land.

Obviously, Muhammad Ali's "Phantom Punch". In slow-mo, it did look like a nice short little right hand. It didn't however, look like a punch that would make Liston get up and fall down again (if it was acting, it was a terrible acting job).

Foreman-Moorer always looks shitty to me. Its great it happened because Moorer gets so pissed at George saying he was setting him up.
