    Marquez wants Pacman

“I want a fight with Manny Pacquiao,†asserted Marquez.

In 2004, the two fought to a controversial stalemate—now Marquez feels the time is right for a rematch.

Marquez stated for the record, in English, “I know that Manny Pacquiao said ‘I am Mexican killer.’ He hasn’t proved it. He hasn’t proved me.â€

Oscar De La Hoya feels that this is a fight that boxing needs right now.

“If you want to be called the best at 130 pounds, you have to go through Marquez,†said De La Hoya. “It’s a match-up that the whole world wants to watch. It’s a match-up that has to happen.â€

Fortunately for fight fans, this fight looks to be inevitable.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaffer, relayed:

“Both (Bob) Arum and I, we already met and we talked about this fight, in case Juan Manuel Marquez did win. We have the date reserved, which is March 15th, of next year. I will be with Bob next week in New York for the Mosley-Cotto fight and I will have further discussions and negotiations with him.

“I hope that within the next couple of weeks, we can put that fight together.â€

Marquez vs Pacquiao II will land on March 15, unless Pacquiao says no.

If this fight happens hopefully Valero can fight the Guzman-Soto winner then the winnser can fight.

I read a recent interview with Arum and Roach yesterday. They both said that Manny would rather move up to 135.

When asked who he was targeting Arum said DAvid Diaz.

I think if Soto beats Guzman Arum will make that fight. He really is trying not to give JMM the fight. He always downplays it even if most of boxing wants that to be the next fight.

No Double, seriously, it'll be right because you're picking Soto.

i'll be forced to hate Pacquiao, even after all he's done, if he doesn't make a rematch with JMM.

the only acceptable option i can imagine is if he fights instead Juan Diaz. but if he turns down a JMM rematch, and fights an Arum guy like Soto or D. Diaz? fk it. I'll hate him. It's as simple as that:

if Pacquiao doesn't fight JMM or Juan Diaz then I hate him.

here's my prediction - if Pac-JMM II doesn't pan out (in which case Arum managed to make a liar and/or a fool out of Richard Schaefer):

If Soto wins, Manny stays at 130, and Arum makes that fight in the first quarter of 2008 on Independent PPV.

If Guzman wins, Golden Boy keeps the March 15 PPV date, which will be Marquez-Guzman.

Take away the hate part, and I basically said as much on another forum. It's either Marquez or Juan Diaz next. The only acceptable alternative would be the winner of Soto-Guzman, as the winner would rightfully be the next best junior lightweight.

If Pac goes another route, then all of the writers and fans who insist that Pac ranks ahead of Floyd P4P, will have to come correct.

oh. Marquez/Guzman almost seems too good to be true. i doubt that fight gets made regardless of what happens. neither guy is a big enough item IMO. the return on those guys is much higher if they "don't" fight. that's just my opinion.

perhaps... though I'm thinking that Golden Boy has nothing to lose by matching them up against one another. That seems to be their M/O... if it has to be a risk, then it might as well be in-house. Of course, the good fortunes spread to Top Rank now that Bob and Dick, er Richard, are playing nice-nice

I've said for a while actually Pacquiao doesn't fight the best he fights the ones who bring the most money.

Every interview they say the same shit. Good for him and his camp but dont' pretend like he is still fighting the best. He hasn't for a while.

I kind of see it like that also. I think Arum can't wait to make Pacquiao/Soto. He's been planning it for a while.

If he goes up to 135 do you think they will go for broke against Juan Diaz or will pacquiao try David Diaz first? Since MOrales wants that rematch with David Diaz.

after a few years now Marquez wants the rematch with Pacquiao??

    can he repeat....

    probably not...

11-1 Marquez...but Manny has gotten better since then....

Juan Diaz vs. Manny Pacquiao or Pacquiao vs. Guzman would be better fights anyway...

It's still viable if made in 2008.

Marquez is showing some decline, but he is still elite and very good...and looked very sharp vs. Juarez (have to take into account who the opponent was, but still, he looked much sharper than I expected).

I'd love to see Pac-Marquez II.

    Peace.

WTF dude? tha't is all you say now. you keep tripping about why it didn't happen before like it's irrelevant now. Damn near all of boxing wants to see this fight because it's the fight to make at 130.

bad choices from JMM don't mean he is not entittle to fight Pacquiao now. Especially when clowns like Solis can land a fight with Pacquiao just because.

I agree about the Juan Diaz probably being better because os his style. But Guzman is the complete opposite. he would probably beat Pacquiao outboxing him but he is not going to engage so no it wouldn't be better.

JMM is a boxer-puncher that will do both against Pacquiao. It needs to happen now. Hell it should have happened last October since JMM did beat MAB back in March. Let's not pretend JMM is asking for this fight out of nowhere.

Marquez & Pacquiao BOTH Need this Fight for the Sake of CLOSURE...

Yep, REED Thinks Manny Got SHAFTED on the Scorecards, but @ the Same Time, he DID Lose More ROUNDS in that Bout...

& Sure, Marquez WUSSED OUT of an Immediate RE, but he Seems MORE than Willing to Do it NOW...

Manny Needs to MAKE This Fight Happen 1st, THEN Worry about 135...

nah! It's just that it's the fight that should get made now and I know if it doesn't it's because of ARum's hate for JMM.

Pacquiao hasn't fought the best in a while and some still salivate over his fights. He can fight David Diaz next year and will proabably be considered the best lightweight in the world by some.

Top Rank obviously has David Diaz and I believe they have Soto as well. If Pac goes to 135, he gets David Diaz. if he stays at 130 and fights anyone BUT Marquez, it'll pretty much ruin the goodwill established when making Pac-MAB II.

I don't think Arum had many (if any) concernd making the rematch with MAB based on how MAB looked recently AND how easily Manny beat MAB the first time out. He's probably not as willing to put Manny in with JMM at this point...especially based on how good he looked against Juarez.

that is an awful call. Most of the people I watched the fight with thought the fight was about even in rounds, but with the 10-6 first it was a clear Pacquiao win.

DId you have Chavez Whitaker 11-1 Chavez too?

They obviously know how to score a fight then :bears:

People who score that fight for Marquez are just giving him sympathy rounds for surviving round 1.

Or in the case of LATIN KING, just being a groupie.

    sympathy rounds?

It's the only fight I've seen Pacquiao's wife crying because of the beating Pacquiao was taking bouncing of the ropes for JMM's shots.

When the fight was over there was one winner and one loser. The loser was giving the bullshit excuses for his performance as usual.

by getting dropped 3 times, losing half the rounds, and receiving a gift draw on a scoring error?
