Was there any talk of Bowe Golota III ? How did the PPV sales do for Bowe Golota II does anybody know? Was there no Bowe Golota III because people didn't see a point to it? I remember an interview with Bowe right after the second Golota fight and he sounded so bad and he said he wanted to fight Holyfield for the 4th time (Holy was coming of the Tyson win) but when asked about Golota he said he wouldn't fight him again. Asked why he replied and i quote "2....2 STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT MAN...HE HAD HIS CHANCE" Bowe also said he wanted to fight somebody in the spring of 97 but "not somebody that tough" so a tune up basically.

Then he goes off and joins the marines for a day or two and quits cuz the drill sergeant was too harsh on him or something. I guess he expected special treatment cuz of who he is. Anyway he quits that and then I guess all the legal problems with the kindappings and everything else follow. Now did Bowe ever officially retire at that point? Was he offered any big money fights in 97-02 time frame (He'd still be pretty much in his prime years at that time) Did Lennox try to get a piece of Riddick after the second Golota fight?

Others may correct me, but I think the main thing that stopped Bowe after the Golota fights is that he got punch drunk. Bad enough that it helped his defense in the kidnapping stuff, but not bad enough that he couldn't fight again...go figure.

There would have been plenty of a point to Bowe/Golota 3 since the first two are like macabre classics of fortitude, talent, and psychological crumbling. I'd guess their ppv did just fine as there weren't many ppv's back then and the first fight was so good.

Bowe was destroyed in that 2nd fight.... IT was a career ender. You dont see heavyweights take that kind of punishment very often.

The reason he was able to fight was due to legal loopholes. The claim on Bowe's side was that he himself never testified to having brain damage, that it was his lawyers' claim.

For what it's worth, though, only 5 states approved him for a license - Oklahoma, California (which disbanded shortly thereafter), Washington DC, Missouri... and I forget the 5th state (I think it was Kentucky)

But as far as Bowe-Golota III, there were never any talks of it, and it was never going to happen. Bowe had it in his mind that he was "retiring" after the 2nd Golota fight, and joining the Marines  ... people in his camp were already telling him to retire PRIOR TO the Golota rematch, including his lifelong trainer/father figure, Eddie Futch.

The plan for Golota was to go the tune-up/rebuild route to pave the way for a fight against a notable contender, before angling for a title shot. As far as Main Events was concerned, Golota twice beat the shit out of Bowe, there was no need to do it again (especially if it meant stockpiling DQ losses on his record). Of course it didnt work out that way. Instead, they put Andrew on ice until the proposed Mercer fight, which fell through after Ray got injured. When that happened, they cut line and went straight to the top, the Lewis fight, which of course produced disastrous results

I'm so glad Golota smashed Bowe out of boxing for good.
He just saved Lewis the tiresome bother of 6 rounds to do it himself.

Bowe, his cunt-faced manager and his bitch-gangster Darkie mates for a posse - almost as bad as Tyson's bunch.

Good riddance to the lot of them.
