Shane's really not that good. He's just tough, strong, got good power, great speed and an eye-catching style.

But when he was on his toes trying to pretend he was some sort of boxer, it was embarrasing. This little stupid jab flick that he does which hardly ever lands. Is that what "powerboxing is all about.

Cotto made that fight appear closer than it actually was by backing off for no reason and and allowing Shane to get back some confidence after the earlier beating he was taking.

Floyd would virtually shut out Shane if they fought.

I like to play the Shane hate game to annoy Phonetap more than anyoneelse. But I genuinely like the cat.

Shane, annoyed me last night though, I will admit. In the first half of teh fight he was holding more than Ricky Hatton and John Ruiz combined. He wasn't fighting like a warrior. Then after that he backed off and pretended to be boxing. It's only in th elast 3rd of the fight when Cotto decided to play the boxing game that Shane showed some balls.

I was disappointed in Shane for that.

I thought Shane looked awful damn good...Cotto just looked better. I thought early on, when they were brawling more, Shane was giving just a little bit less than he was getting.

I think alot of you guys just hate certain fighters and then try and take away from them no matter how they perform or how good they are.

The only thing I didn't like about the fight was the way Cotto fought the last three rounds...even though I thought he probably won one or two of those rounds.

No need to disparage the guy Sly, he did a great job. No he isn't a jabber, so what? Lets look at Mayweather and Toney... neither guy really uses the jab much. Hatton? ditto. Whats the big deal? Cotto used the jab very well it is part of his style. He was winning rounds with it so he stuck with it. Shane was never winning rounds with a jab in that fight.

shane's jab is like roy jones jab...really nothing more than a range finder not stiff and effective.

right now, yeah, floyd would beat shane now but prime for prime don't be a damn moron and think it would have been a virtual shut out.

Well I missed the post fight interviews so if Cotto explained why he did that please enlighten me. But when I saw teh fight, Cotto was beating Shane up and then suddenly elects to use some fancy footwork and let Shane come to him. Initially I thought that it was just because he was tried of chasing a scared Shane and wanted to sucker him in...but I don't care...he should have continued the stalking and he would have won the fight more clearly and we wouldn't be hearing about this "the fight could have been a draw" nonsense.

    I respect that response.

This thread was really to sucker you in and unfortunately you didn't respond with the venom that I expected.

I agree with this post completely...

Shane hurt Cotto to the body and got a bit tired, that's why he backed off.

Had that been Ali, RJJ or Roy you would be saying "Cotto started backing off because of ______ (insert any of Sly's man crushes) pugilist genius ability. He started timing the robotic Cotto and in the end almost ran the Puelto Lican out of the ring".

That, and he has beaten all of his opponents except for two great boxers and a good prospect when he was old himself. Out of those losses three were very close. So I must ask, what should a fighter be to be good?

He's good..just not THAT good. Not as good as the hype would have you believe.

The only top level fighter that Shane has beaten is De La Hoya...if you think about it. People may say that that is all he needs.

That's good. But I remember Kirkland Laing's only win over a top level fighter was against Roberto Duran.

Shane has fought a grand total of 4 top level fighters and has only beaten one of them (Vargas doesn't count because he's beyond shot)

Just 'tough'...'strong'...'good power'...'great speed'...'eye-catching style'? What a bum, then... :slap:

    Don't be daft.

PBF would win, sure, but he certainly wouldn't be shutting Shane out. And five years ago?

That's exactly what I thought when I first read it. You can't really call someone tough, strong, very fast, with an eye catching style and intend it to be disparaging
