Sorry for being a topic starting fiend this morning, but it's the morning after a big fight, cut me some slack!! :: Anyway...Jim said from the onset that the REAL Welterweight champion is Floyd and regardless of the outcome of this fight that wont change. He mentioned all of the other titlists and said that regardless of this (transliterating) Floyd is the man who beat the man who beat the man. This is indeed true and we must not forget it! Secondly...when Manny Steward attempted to grill Kellerman on floyd's status should he not fight teh winner, Max stuck to his guns and said quite emphatically that Floyd is the true champ until he's defeated. It great to see that HBO keeps the most intelligent fight analysts in their broadcasting team! :bears:
fuck that. kellerboy must be sucking a mean dick, that would explain why he's got that job in the first place. Bring back Larry. Larry Jim and Goerge that was the best combination EVER
They both are legit arguments. Floyd is the champ right now and Cotto is basicully the number 1 contender. After Floyd beats Hatton he needs to fight Cotto.
I thought Kellerman was the only good one last night. I actually saw some Merchant in him. LAmpley and Steward were waaay off their game last night.
Cotto, Williams, Cintron, Margarita, Mosley...... Mayweather has no excuses for not fighting one of them after Ricky Hatton..
I thought Max said Cotto was lineal champ after Steward said Max can call him lineal champ or whatever he wants, he's not having any part of it, and Max said Cotto is lineal champ.
No Max clearly said Floyd. What Manny said was that if Floyd sticks to his guns and passes on facing Cotto, then Max can have his linear champ but as far as Steward's concerned, the welterweight title's vacant.
Which is bullshit. There are plenty of guys at 147 that Floyd can fight without relinquishing his claim to the championship.
The problem is, we can come with a list, and Floyd will probably dismiss all as unworthy challengers. I have a feeling the rest will continue to fight each other (which is a good thing). In fact, and someone else mentioned it, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised of Floyd-Mosley was next, as Shane's farewell fight (not unlike Pac-Barrera II). Cotto will probably fight Margarito... and the winner of Williams-Cintron will be left on the outside looking in. I've said it a few times, but will keep repeating it until boxing does something about it: until a playoff-style format surfaces in boxing, where the linear champ is obligated to defend against his #1 contender at least once a year, I'd rather see divisions ranked 1-10 (or 12), rather than starting with "Champ" at the top. The lightweight and light heavyweight divisions are the best two examples I can come up with to support my argument.
actually the argument was that Steward said Floyd can't call himself the champion if he beat Hatton and didn't fight the Cotto/Mosley winner. I agree with Steward. After Baldomir, Floyd hasn't fought the best at 147. He went up to fight Oscar and now is fighting Hatton moving up again from 140. Mostly everyone saw Cotto/Mosley and Hatton/Floyd winners as the best fighters who should fight each other next year. I don't want to see Mosley/Floyd. What was the point of Cotto beating Shane if it won't lead to the Mayweather fight? Yes it was a good fight and very close but Cotto got the win. I don't see why Floyd should look for another fight at 147 if he gets passed Hatton.:dunno: Actually there isn't a bigger fight at 147.opcorn: Basically Kellerman was saying that Floyd will remain the linear champion regardless of who he fights which is bullshit. I guess he also considers CAsamayor the linear champion at 135 just cause he holds the ring belt. That fools just wants to stick to the ring magazine rules regardless of the situation even if he knows it's fucking silly.:notallthere:
you're commending lamps and max for clinging to meaningless technicalities? there's a half a dozen fighters at 147 who are better than baldomir, and your PBF ball-sucking ass clings to this? gimme a break.
That's the fight everyone wants to see. But I'm telling you guys Cotto is going to fight DLH next. Hear me know believe me later. How in the hell is Shane gonna take immediate rematches against Forrest and Wright where he got beat badly in both but yet won't rematch a guy that many saw the fight being extremely close. I'll Holla 5000
