I was so close...just glad I didn't have money on the exact round :: This fight did go exactly as I imagined: Haye isn't the greatest boxer on the planet, but he proved that he isn't as chinny as some make out and he can BANG. Though I'm not sure how 'well' he does at HW :dunno: If he does move up, fine, but I'd be very grateful for him to spark Enzo Macranelli clean out in front of 50,000 Calzaghe fans in Cardiff as soon as possible please first. If he doesn't mind... MTF
With Calzaghe on the way out, Warren will need a few world chumps to put on his Khan undercards...no way he feeds bumzo to Haye, unless Haye is ready to fight under his banner for a few years
I actually, honestly have NO idea how good Enzo is or otherwise, and that is the problem and one of the reasons for my dislike. He might be friggin excellent, but whilst Warren continues to feed him stiffs like Erza (Peter?) Sellars (So shot, old and inactive that the sanctioning body told Warren to stop being ridiculous) there is no way of knowing. Stick him in with Haye and see what happens. I'd pick Haye were the fight tomorrow, and I will pick him with money if needed OC, but if Enzo is the goods, so be it. But really, there is no way of knowing right now, is there? MTF
Hobson took him to the wire in their first fight, he lost to Swaby...he has power but he bog average on every other criterium...
I actually think that Enzo looks to be improving with each fight, and a victory over Braithwaite (past his best or no) is still noteworthy, but that fight aside, it's easy to look like you are improving against bums. And there can be no doubt that Enzo is fighting bums (again, Big Truck excepted). I am far from convinced that Enzo is the goods, but I am not a hater or anything like that. I would concede that he can bang, certainly, as I say he seems to be improving and he is British and so I want to wish him well as a point of course. But he is being protected, and whilst that is the case, I want to see him iced. Enter David Haye... MTF
I thought you weren't high on Enzo? Yet, you now compare Mark Hobson to Billy Conn? :dunno: ...get some sleep :nono:
If you are seriously trying to claim that Erza Sellars is not shot and utterly inactive (so shite now that he was BARRED from challenging Enzo!!), and similarly that Enzo is not protected, then you are indeed a nuthugger and no more. What Sellars may or may not have been in his prime is irrelevant to what Sellars would have been last Saturday... :nono: Further, that Enzo has fought bums, followed by more bums, is not even an issue :nono: I have said that thee is no way for me to know, to be honest, how good or otherwise Mac is, because he fights stiffs. Haye, on the other hand, has just handed Mormeck's arse to him, and in Paris no less. The logical pick in a Haye/Mac fight is Haye. I have already accepted your offer of a wager if Warren ever finds the SAC to make the fight happen. Bottom line is that there is no need whatseover for us to have the Haye/Maccronelli debate: they should simply fight. Two fighters in their prime in an 'all UK' unification bout, in Cardiff (most likely). That would settle the debate, methinks...opcorn: MTF
it wasn't a comparison, it was an analogy. I ain't high on Enzo but I ain't high on your logic neither.
Ismael Abdoul, Fragomeni, Mock, that Swedish/Danish fella......what exactly were these fights? And Thompson was 39 ffs.
 Does or doesn't Enzo fight entirely bums (either never-have-beens or shot to pieces almost were's)? Yes or no? Has Enzo fought anyone as good as Mormeck? Yes or no? Has Enzo gone abroad to fight a respected World titlest and got off the canvas to win the title? C'mon man; no-one is claiming that Haye is some kind of Holyfield or owt like that (except maybe Haye himself), but you are defending the indefensible... MTF
Guys who been on here for a while, and back to the boxingtime days will know that i've always talked Haye up, glad he's come good...i think he's a talent The fight and sparring with Fragomenni provided perfect preperation for this fight....Mormeck has faded in fights recently, and with Haye sinking in those body shots the result isn't a surprise just skim-read through the 7 pages of posts, and some people are talking complete garbage. It's funny that the Carl Thompson defeat is pulled up....that loss was the best thing that happened for David....remember he only had 7 fights or so at that stage, and took on a dangerous former world champ....faded, but who showed against Rothman that he can never be discounted. David has matured, and he showed that....slowly picking off Mormeck using the jab, and firing below the high guard to the body....then he didn't let his punches go until he had Mormeck in trouble David's chin will always be an issue, and i'm not going to state that he has one made out of granite. But don't overlook the effect that weight making had on his ability to take a punch.....heavyweight is a big step up, and even with a strong chin anyone can get knocked out....but remember Diego Corrales against Freitas....at super feather this guy wasn't hard to put down....with a few more pounds he took everything Acelino had, and even took 9 rounds of bombs against Castillo until he was put down. Not saying Haye is gonna go toe-to-toe with Peter and not be rocked...but it is not as straight forward as people seem to think as well as his power, Haye will take up his speed....Mormeck has fast hands, heavyweights won't be hitting Haye as often as that...he's got to work on his defence some more, but he foot speed is good and he'll be too fast for a lot of heavyweights It's hard to know how good he'll be up there, but he's a wild card to throw into the mix.....the division is weak, and height wise David will only be towered above by few my biggest concern is his attitude...at heavyweight he might be able to get away with some short cuts in training
Good point....Cotto moving up to 147 with better punch resistance is another example. The only caveat is -- you have a ceiling in other weight classes in terms of the opponent's weight... YOu don't have that at HWT. Peace.
just watched this fight last night. haye is a deadly puncher but looks like he has the tendency to fold when he's attacked against the ropes. he also has a shaky chin. as for mormeck, if it wasnt apparent in his rematch vs bell, he is finished.
Compare his punching, breathing and facial expression in rounds 1 and 2 to what it becomes by the middle rounds.....
HUGELY SO:nono: ....he runs silent in the opening rounds {1,2} and is extremely dangerous...his form by the middle rounds is so comparatively RAGGED as to be immediatlely noticeable. Not even a jaded Tyson displayed that sort of form towards the end of his career. How Mormeck let him back into the fight is a mystery to me, Haye was looping and huffing in the 7th.
Go back a couple of pages on this thread and you'll find that Ortho and I have already debated this point somewhat... opcorn: MTF
somewhat being the operative word.....needless to say I agree neither of us knows how it would pan out
