LOS ANGELES (November 12) – It's only fitting that the December 8 "UNDEFEATED" Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton featured undercard fights bring the same high caliber competition as the evening's main event super bout. Former super middleweight world champion Jeff Lacy returns to the ring against former 'Contender' star Peter Manfredo Jr., WBO World Junior Featherweight Champion Daniel Ponce De Leon defends his crown against Eduardo Escobedo and rising star Wes Ferguson looks for payback in a rematch against Edner Cherry to put a perfect ending on the sweet science.

He's not the guy that got upset by Jimenez on Telefutura a year or two ago is it? His name sounds familiar, but I'm probably thinking of someone else.

disagREED. Much like Hopkins-Wright, this is the type of show that needs a strong undercard to atone for the potential lack of action in the main event.

Lacy-Manfredo should be a fun fight - and at this point, possibly even a competitive one. Ponce is hardly ever in a dull fight.

Ferguson-Cherry is a fight I can do without. I understand that Ferguson is the only other figher under the Mayweather Promotions umbrella, but it doesn't mean he should pollute our TV screens.

never mind, I had my Esco's mixed up. I was thinking of Vicente Escobedo.

Not familiar with Eduardo, other than his one fight w/ Benjamin Flores, a fight that validates Neil's claim of the kid's potential.

well checking his record he was KOd by some journeyman it appears. he's a typical beristain guy with a similar style as the marquez brothers/finito.

dunno if his chin holds up against ponce tho, who if anything is strong as shit.

I like Manfredo-Lacy A LOT!!! Two short-arse Calzaghe victims with faces like burn victims duking it out for the right not-to-be-called Joes Main Sissy. Surriously, I like this fight. Ponce De Leon is always entertaining I just hope he is fightings someone that can fight back.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]From fightnews: "We've pulled out all the stops to make this card the event it should be," said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. "There is no filler on this pay-per-view card, with each fight holding important implications for the winner and the loser. These are the fights I want to see as a fight fan."

    Dear Oscar,
    Go fuck yourself.
This undercard is complete shit, you greedy fuck.
You've done a swell job on this matchup for the fans, especially the multitudes of English fans who were willing to fly to the US to watch it. Not only did you not get enough seats for them, but now you've managed to give them fuckall to watch on closed circuit.
Don King is a great promoter.
You aren't, and give no indication you ever will be.
    Thanks,
    mikE

Why should Oscar care about English fans? :dunno:
They're basically human garbage.......Remember what those scumbags did when Hagler beat down Minter?
Oscar knows his boxing history and he knows that giving ANYTHING to English subhumans is a waste of time and money....

Totally agree, most wont remember but here is a little clip of what was written about that night.

Fight night. Wembley Arena under the spotlights. Hagler seemed muscular but short of stature. Minter towered over him, unshaven, and looking mean-eyed. The light glinted on the brass of a Royal Marines band, as they filed out of the ring.

"Minter began by aggressively throwing combinations, but before long, Hagler's jab was finding his face, and by the end of the first round, the Englishman was already cut. In the second, Hagler was continuing to land and Minter was trying to slug his way out of trouble. He jarred the American with a right hook, but Hagler immediately counterattacked with a blizzard of heavy punches, whilst bobbing and weaving around Minter's own shots. By the third, Hagler had ripped open Minter's eyebrows, and the Englishman was recoiling from the onslaught. The referee's arms were up in the air. It was over, and within seconds, Hagler himself had to be rescued as drunken fans pelted the ring with plastic bottles, in a still-notorious example of English boxing hooliganism. Minter, head partially covered with a towel, stared at his cornermen, his face shaken and bewildered. He didn't even know there'd been a riot until someone told him in his dressing room."

    this undercard blows!

putting a good undercard is now a bonus to the main event.

I think Floyd chose Hatton for the same reason he fought Gatti. He is a draw and has the style to make it an exciting fight.

The thing with Hatton is that he could make it exciting or clinch for dear life. Don't know what to expect. :dunno:

Well, if nowt else at least we get to see this kid try to smash someone's head clean off again. If there is a more powerful single shot puncher out there right now, I can't recall him...

The rest is dog shat though. :shit:

What is Manfredo - Lacy about? Did the Calzaghe defeat really mess Jeff up that badly? I should hope that Calzaghe's win over Kessler puts the Lacy schooling into perspective- Lacy isn't necessarily a bum, he just isn't Calzaghe. No shame in that.

Quite frankly, he should be icing, in absolutely no time at all, guys like Manfredo IMO. I know he hurt his shoulder last time out, but seriously...

I for one do not appreciate being described as 'subhuman', a 'scumbag' or 'human garbage', simply because a load of pissed up morons went nuts in 1980... :nono:

    Don't make sweeping generalisations :warning:

I like him just fine, but on a huge ppv event he should be fighting a legitimate challenger and not getting a telefutura showcase fight. It's exactly what dlh said it's not--a filler fight.
