I have tried to faithfully be there for Carlos and the Bandy bandwagon goes on with rickety legs... He is solid. he fought well and the guy always pressures his opponents... like Gatti really. No he is not a superstar, and no he can't compete at the top. But at the very least he would be a good fight for Margarito and at the best he fought better comp and at least managed to make Pretty boy look like ugly boy:lol: as compared to Gatti.

Anyhow, yeah we are fans of the big guys but heres a shout out to some of my lesser known guys I look foward to.

    1) Maussa- Love the crazy Colombian. He looks crazy retarded like something is just not correct upstairs, has great music that he does his ringwalk too, love the hat as well. Maussa has been figured out, but his stye was unique and he hung tough against some good guys.

His win over Harris was great for him and Ortiz, bless his young heart, pretty much guaranteed we won't see much more of a man who had one of the most unique styles of boxing that I have ever seen!! It could be called "psychotic bobble doll style."

    2) Baldimore- nuff said up top. Baldy is always a live dog. he managed to beat one of the better punchers through sheer will and determination. He fought well against Floyd and made Floyd look like a desperate potshotter. I like Floyd so I am just telling it like it is. I think he would be a good fight for Margarito.

    3) Chavez Junior- The kid keeps winning with good punching. He is as precise as Cotto and will only get better. All the haters talk about his entitled position but, doesn't his old man deserve a few entitlements? Junior is doing it right, at his age he should fight a few cans and work oh his skills.

Junior, despite his haters, never rushes, never skips a beat and could be the Mexican version of Cotto which is interesting to me... Imagine the middle divisions with two, distinctly different body punchers? :cheer: as Jaws would say "good times"!

    Chavez Jr.

Then there's the occasional nobodies that I see out here in NY that I like. Jose Guzman (1-2-1) being one of my most favorites because I just pray that he gets a manager. He's 19, 130lbs, and about 6'1 I believe. They just match him terribly.

Keith Sims is another one. He puts a bowtie on and walks into the ring taunting the crowd. They eat it all up.

Marcos Maidana is mY favorite lesser known who is on the verge of being a known. I'd say there is a very good chance he wins the wba jw title in his next fight from what i've read. He fights pretty much like Hatton did before he stepped up, but probably hits harder.

Oscar Pereyra is another Argentine who fights a lot like Miguel Cotto. Very good looking prospect.

Claudio Abalos is my favorite journeyman. Tough guy, but he is too limited to get anywhere. After he wins, he dances a jig that is pretty hilarious and unique.

And sticking to the Argentine theme, Marcela Acuna is my favorite lesser known girl fighter. The crowds love her and she is an attacker along the lines of Christy Martin...and about as limited.

Leaving Argentina, I like Daiki Kameda a lot. More fun to watch than his brother. I haven't seen his last fight, but it sounds like it was memorable, at least.

Not sure if I understand the point of this thread "however" I've liked what I've seen from Argenis Mendez. He's a prospect with less than 10 pro fights. He's been on Telefutura cards recently.

he didn't KO him. The bout was stopped due to a cut that was arguably caused by a headbutt.

The fight was terrible, and beyond that, I've seen enough of JuanMa to know that he's not as good as his record.

I;m with you, though, not getting the gist of this thread. So far, I've seen highly touted prospects, and cult message board heroes. Arben's entry of Jose Guzman is probably the best example I've seen thus far, if not the only relevant one.

that said, I've been big on Mendes since he turned pro. He's (co-)managed by my homeboy Jose, who also manages Joan Guzman. Some might remember a few months ago during a "Future champs/stars" thread where I boldly predicted he'd not only win a title, but would be P4P among the best in the sport.

Dominican, Puerto Rican...same thing  I thought that was a Puerto Rican flag in his corner...guess I was wrong.

I know you asked me what I thought of him last weekend (Mendez fought on Friday's Telefutura card)...

I'm glad he got the rounds in last Friday though the guy was a bum who did nothing but fight wild and dirty.

    Edson Aguirre.

I hate to have to say this, but the fact that he can take so much punishment is what makes him exciting. I've seen him a bunch of times, and it's always a fun fight while it lasts. He's not too good, and won't make the hometown kid look bad, but you'll have to be on your game to really beat him up.

My favorite moment of his is when he fought Joe Greene in New York. He was knocked down a total of seven times in the bout, but when he got up from the sixth knockdown, everyone stood up in and gave him a staning ovation. That just blew me away.

You guys are funny.... Like a bunch of little Dominican girls at the Bodaga "I'm not sure I get the point of this thread but here is a guy who I think....".

Look, only 1 percent are superstars Si? Now no prospect, no guy who is unheralded is going to be a major draw. So these guys are all fair game. Basically we all have our favorite boxing superstars and yeah Hatton against Mayweather is exciting.... yes? But that leaves a lot of fighters, some of whom may be the next Mayweather, some of whom may be just a guy who Kauki would pick against Mayweather.

Think of it like this: When I was a kid I loved to watch REggie hit one out of the park... but occasionally the game depended on a guy like Stanley... never heard of him right? he was the shortstop for the yankees for a while before Dent, a second stringer tried and true.

TRANSLATION: I don't have anything to contribute to the thread.

Also, I don't recall Stanley (full name please), but I remember Bucky Dent. I also remember being upset when Thurmon Munson died in the plane crash. I was a Yankee fan back then.

"Sly" Stafford Attzs is the most talented of the lesser known prospect right now. He's got lightening fast hands, great defense and a beautiful left hook. He may be 35...but watch out for him!!
