I created a similar thread in the MMA forum. I think boxing is certainly superior to MMA in this regard. It's not the point of this thread though. Just a boxing question for us fans. Often fights between two world class boxers have a lot of anticipcation and hype. What's going to happen? Who's going to establish their strengths, who will have to gut it out? What will happen if ... What were the best fights that lived up to their potential and hype?
Julio Cesar Chavez-Meldrick Taylor I Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales III Shane Mosley-Oscar De La Hoya I
I would always say Benn - McClellan. This is my favourite ever fight, because it did did exactly what it said on the tin; 160 champ against 168 champ (okay, I'll also accept RJJ ::), both HUGE punchers who promised to try to kill the other guy or die trying. How ironic those promises turned out to be. Some more obvious ones, like Ali - Frazier's III and Ali - Foreman spring to mind too. MTF
I don't think that's quite the case. Tyson was a big favorite but not too many people thought it would a repeat of Tyson-Spinks. Point taken though, it's not the best example.
IMO the fatman has all the cards......If he loses most americans (home of boxing :dunno: ) will be happy and will expect it but if he wins the fight, it would be one of the biggest fights and win in history - i just hope Hatton turns up in the same shape as he did for Castillo The only other guy dominating at the moment is the one and olny Joe Calzaghe. IMHO
I'm sure you could find ppl who had corrales and castillo ranked going into their first bout. which was the greatest fight ever.
interesting that these fights seem to be the exception rather than the rule when it comes to p4p fighters. pacquiao/jmm jmm/mab pacquiao/morales i pavlik/taylor sloppy/kessler
TRINIDAD - VARGAS!! I can hardly remember a fight I was looking forward to more and the fight itself EXCEEDED the hype!!:bears:
Between two PxP guys? I have to go with Pryor-Arguello I and Hagler-Hearns. Of course one has to mention Corrales-Castillo I and Trinidad-Vargas, but that depends on whether we're talking top-10 PxP guys or not. Peace.
Are you sure about that? I'm not disagreeing, but I don't recall Vargas being quite that highly regarded at that time.
