It's actually a decent fight, it just has a Telefutura or ShoBox atmosphere. Not liking HBO taking their Boxing After Dark series to the ballroom circuit.

    No...but it's a good bout.

I've seen Mares before, has some good skills and speed and is consistently improving.

Good test for him tonight.....the Argies are teak-tough.

Of course you like Mares. Nacho's in his corner.

agREED, though, good looking prospect, not scared to mix it up, and very well-schooled.

This is only my third time seeing this referee, but I like the way she handles a fight. Most refs are rushing a fighter to get back in there after a low blow, disregarding the fact that they get up to 5 minutes. Instead of rushing him back in, she asked if dude wanted more time, and also warned Mares for the fouls without making a big scene.

If Larry Hazzard was still commissioner instead of a spectator, he'd have jumped in the ring acting like he's re-directing a traffic jam.

Nice 6th round, BTW. Mares is winning, but getting tagged way too much by punches that have no business landing as clean as they've been.

Actually, I hadn't actively registered that Nacho was his trainer until tonight.

It's the horse before the cart with me....there are certain styles I like, and the classic textbook, fundamentals boxer-puncher is one of them...which happens to be the style Nacho favors.

Interestingly enough, though, Abner doesn't have the "classic Nacho stance."

BTW, watching Mares someone came to mind....

Why isn't more noise being made about Raul "Cobra" Martinez?

There was some buzz about him early on but it's died out....despite the fact that he continues to win and be exciting.

He's worked his way down to flyweight from banty though....that may be it, once you go below 118 you cease to exist.

I know, just giving you shit. But in all honesty, if I had my choice of trainer for a fighter, Nacho would be very high on that list, if not at the very top. But just as a trainer, no managing :nono:

I think it's more the Main Events factor, as they seem to become less and less relevant with each major fight. Next week's card being no exception (though oddly enough, one on which I believe Martinez appears)

Mares' offence looks good. He is setting up his attack with the jab. He is throwing body shots which is unusual for a young contender.

Between four announcers tonight, we've heard three different pronounciations for David Marchiano -

    Bob Papa - Mar-Key-Anno
    Lederman - Mar-Chee-Anno
    Lennox - Marco

Yup, he does, vs. Rosas....nice little 2nd test at 112.

That sucks (Main Events in relation to Cobra Martinez).
