ah, was wondering when this thread would come about. SHAME ON YOU, ILLU!

The boy named Joan, via UD. 116-112, 117-112, 115-113. Arum bitches about the decision afterward, likens Guzman's performance to that of a businessman, and for the first time since the kiss-and-make-up merger, threatens to never again do business with Oscar or HBO

Guzman by decision in a terrific fight, but I wouldn't bet the house on it, bro.
This is going to be a wild one.

    .....

Reading Mayweather's statements about Guzman making weight make me wonder about the late rounds. He should land plenty early but if Soto hangs in there and makes it a tough fight how does Guzman respond late? :dunno:

This is a almost a replica of Guzman/Barrios.

Soto will make it competitive but it's a clear win for Guzman. :warning:

I don't think the weight will be an issue. Neither guy hit 130 in their first try. Both hit it on their second try.

Both seem well prepared. The question is how many early rounds will Soto lose? he will spend the fight playing catch up and trying to come stronger at the end.

I am not talking about the weigh ins. I am talking about the fact that Mayweather said Guzman had a rough time with weight. Considering his past history it's not to hard to believe. Hell even against Barrios he slowed down late. What makes it tough to pick though is Guzman is very tough.

He always has "trouble" making weight since he was at 122 yet he is still undefeated because he doesn't lose.

No way he loses to Soto either. You make it seem like an old DLH fatigue at the end of the fight.

I have never seen Guzman fight. So I don't know. I do like Soto, though.

Mayweather Sr. said Guzman gassed bad hitting the pads recently.

Based on his comments, and the way Guzman looked at the weigh-in, I'm changing my pick. Soto UD or late stoppage.

I'm surprised he would say something like that about his fighter.

Everytime I have heard Floyd Sr. talk about Guzman he said Guzman is #2 pfp behind Floyd Jr.

It's funny he would say shit like that before the fight.

I like Soto, I wonder if he can dial up the pressure in the later stages, he is at a styles disadvantage but Guzman is a little complacent sometimes, I would wonder how he would react to being taken out of his comfort zone in the second half of the fight

this will be a good boxing match, with guzman landing more, but soto landing the harder punches, I think guzman takes the early rounds, then soto comes in strong in the half and late rounds, to take a hard fought SD.

To be honest I'm really not sure about this one. I think Guzman is horrendously overrated. When the hell did he get a reputation as a puncher?

To me he is neither a great puncher or boxer. Or even an exciting fighter.

But I don't think Soto is that good either. He's not a bum, he's OK, just not that good.

So the first time in a very long time, I am passing on a prediction, it's a complete pick em fight in my eyes. And I haven't seen enough of either fighter to confidently make a pick.

    I'll watch the fight though.

I'm going with the upset and a bit of the "illogical" pick....Soto by tight decision.

I think stamina is going to be critical here...and I think Soto will pick up the pressure and really make Guzman back up and fight every minute of every round, especially rounds 7-12.

Humberto is a good boxer (needs more head movement), can come forward behind a long, strong jab and has a very consistent and high workrate...and doesn't fade late.

I fully expect Soto to look 'bad' early and for Guzman to take the majority of the early rounds - but Soto will make them close with his straight punching.

But Soto won't stop and he is sharper, more accurate and more schooled than a Barrios. The middle and late rounds should see Soto catching Guzman more than anyone ever has and Joan being less and less effective, though his flashy combos and ring generalship will keep him "in it."

Soto's cleaner, harder, flush shots, consistent workrate and intelligent pressure get him the close nod over Guzman's flurries and slickness and counters.

Soto in a close one that will likely have fans debating scores for weeks on end and may lead to a rematch.

    Peace.

Guzman early, Soto late. Consistency and workrate vs. showboating and the occasional precise punching. Whatever the judges prefer will decide the winner. Tight fight either way.

i got $150 on Guzman...the more I read your guys' posts the closer I think it is going to be.

    guzman UD (i hope)

my only concern is he is out of shape and rusty and soto brings the heat late.

Don't let yourself be influenced....come fight night you watch, Guzman wins KO 3 and we all feel like idiots.

I do think, btw, that Guzman can buzz Soto, but not stop him.

guzman, especially now at130 with busted up hands, hits no harder than juarez.
