I don't think it makes much sense for Calzaghe. He should stay at 168 and keep piling on defenses. The only reason to step up to 175 is to face the guy who will bring the biggest bucks. I assume, right now, that's Hopkins. Or to face the guy who is the best. I assume right now, that's Dawson. Or to fight the linear champ. That's Zsolt. What Woods provides, a real belt, isn't necessary for Calzaghe for negotiation or anthing else.

Woods hasn't made 168 in 10 years. If he could make 168 and do a Lalonde so both his and joe's belts are on the line, then it might make sense. But that ain't happening.

If the fight is to happen I assume it will be 175, this would be a huge fight in england, easily sell out the Millenium. It wouldn't be my first choice for Joe but not a bad alternative.

Ill like to see Joe Vs B-Hop but at this time I think Calzaghe is way to much for hopkins.

That leaves Dawson, dont know much about him, but he seems to be held in high regard.

If Calzaghe was younger and was planning to move up to 175 a fight with Woods as his debut, it would make sense. Especially as both are Euros.

But Joe only has a handful of fights left, this one is worthless IMO.

This all makes sense, and moreover these are almost the exact reasons why this fight won't EVER happen IMO, but...

...I for one would prefer to see Woods fight Joe than Hops (stop laughing at the back).

IMO, Woods is a very, very underrated PRIME and legitimate World Champion who, especially at 175, would give Joe a hell of a fight.

I certainly wouldn't lightly assume Dawson to be necessarily better than Clinton :nono:

And frankly, it's gotta be better than Woods fighting Johnson for like the zillionth time, or JC fighting three of four nobodies to surpass the 'most defenses ever' record when Hopkins, as I suspect, decides he wont come to Wales and Joe decides he wont go to the US.

In short- won't happen , but I'd love to see this match-up :cheer:

I agree, Woods is a harder fight than B-Hop, as for Dawson I dont know much about him

    Vastly improved indeed.

Much as I hate the comparison, the improvement is roughly akin to Junior Witter's since he ran from Zab to now.

Anyone judging Woods solely on that fight would be making a grave misjudgment. :nono:

Woods KO2 'the German Cheat' (outside Germany)

Sven SD Woods after Sven KD three times and Woods deducted point each time for 'hard shots thrown' (in Deutschland)

I just watched that fight on setanta too. Gonzales took some HARD punches flush, and still kept on swinging.

Good fight (esp. for me as i thought it was live!!)

It matters what Joe wants at this stage. If its legacy, then fight Hopkins. If its money then the fight with Woods in England would be a huge payday. If he wants the best challenge, then he needs to fight Pavlik after he disposes of Taylor again.

I think the bigger challenge is Dawson (but it could be Pavlik), but Pavlik is the best challenge because it would keep calz at 168 and pavlik's stock is so high right now.

    Yeah, he is.

    Surprising but true.

Guy rededicated himself to the sport; quit drinking; puts in the long camps now....

    It shows.

    Agreed.

Dawson at 175 would be nigh impossible....I don't think Calzaghe will go that route.

The more important question is, why isn't the "lightheavyweight champion" taking that route or even daring to speak about the possibility?..

Because he wants to fight the very best, unlike, say, Margarito?

Woods is very live vs Calzaghe, and it'll be a huge fight in England too I believe

Great minds think alike:lol: Dawson is definitely the biggest challenge, I was thinking of keeping Joe at 168 as well.

Now for boxing fans, we could have our cake and eat it too if Dawson fought Woods and Calzaghe fought Pavlik:cheer:

Why SHOULD Dawson call out Calzaghe?

    Or do you mean Hopkins?

Big fight in England, sure. Woods isn't any real threat though.
