Right now, it's Joe (just ahead of Pavlik), but the winner of PBF - Hatton is a virtual shoe in, especially if either wins big.

Im guessing the winner of Hatton-Mayweather.

    Cotto will be runner-up.

A backtwisting, running split decision over Hatton, will seal the deal for me, "pretty boy" Floyd Mayweather jr, fighter of the year 2006, and now 2007, and any more years this very wealthy, nonpariel phenom wishes to participate in this great sport he owns and controls so well. You know for some reason, we're very LUCKY, it's like, Roy Jones tragically died right?, but he came back reincarnated as Floyd Mayweather!, it's like, there never had to be a fallout of mass mourning, the transition of era's has been so eerily smoothe, I mean, what are the odds?..:crafty:

    Pavlik.

He's fought 3 times. KO'ing Zertuche, Miranda and Taylor.

It can't be Calzaghe, he has one quality win and that was Kessler. Manfredo isn't shit.

It can't be Floyd, he will have fought twice this year after the Hatton fight and Oscar at this point is not a top guy in any division.

Pavlik has been more active and more dominant than anyone else this year.

I'd lean slightly towards Calzaghe because of that total unification thing, an idea the welterweights should consider before I'd give them simular consideration.

What about Hatton if he wins? (Regardless of whether or not you actually think he will or will not win that fight...)

Would Castillo and PBF be better than Zertuche, Miranda and Taylor?

No because Castillo quit like a bitch in the Hatton fight.

If Hatton beats Floyd, it is a GREAT victory and it may just be enough.

I don't think he really quit but I sure was expecting him to put up more of a fight. Castillo is a decent win for sure for Hatton, if he beats Floyd he's probably a lock.

He also beat Urango in January so he's been pretty active this year too. Urango is also a decent win. I'm going with Hatton if he beats Floyd. If not it's Pavlik.

Let's be realistic, Castillo is no blown up lightweight. The guy should have been at 140 for a long ass time. Mayweather beating ODLH may be more impressive than beating Castillo, until you take into account how the fights went. How you win DOES matter.

I'll go with Pavlik. He had a massive year this year.

But it could also pretty much also go to the winner of Mayweather/Hatton as other's have said.

Hatton beat Castillo much better than Floyd ever did. Shouldn't we take that into account as well? :bears: In the end it really don't matter because Floyd and Hatton are fighting each other. If Floyd wins a close fight with Hatton though I wouldn't give him fighter of the year. If he dominates then maybe I would. Either way hatton won't beat Floyd.

I have Pavlik so far. Why? Because of all of the names mentioned, he's the only one who won a fight where he entered as an underdog - and not just once, but twice (Taylor and Miranda, and I have the betting slips to prove it).

Cotto's year has been underrated, though "only" against Top 10 contenders. Still, dating back to Quintana, he's beaten 4 straight top 10 contenders in an 11 month span! A shame that the Quintana fight came one month too early.

Calzaghe's win over Kessler was probably the year's most impressive and complete performance, given the high stakes.

But all that said, there's a 90% chance that the winner of Floyd-Hatton will be given such honors. A Hatton win would make him the obvious choice. With Floyd, there's no way the media will resist rewarding the winner of the two highest grossing fights of the year.

So we might as well just say the winner of Mayweather-Hatton.
