dsimon writes: That would be a sensational fight!!:bears: I always liked Mayorga I just think that he falls down against guys he can't back up. Baldimore is a presser though and he would constantly try to back Mayorga up. Baldy also has good skills, much better than people think. Good call!
Forrest ain't kicking shit. Even in the rematch when he stuck to his boxing, Mayorga beat him and made him run for a few rounds. Somehow Mayorga will just rought Forrest up and get a close decision over him. No way does Forrest try to exchange.
I had Forrest winning the second fight but it wasnt a robbery at all, just a close fight that could have gone either way. And stop the rabbit punches nonsense, it seems that nowaday, everyone use it as an excuse. Haye won vs Mormeck because of rabbit punches, Peter put Wlad on the canvas with rabbit punches, Mayorga floored Vargas with rabbit punches,... Pure nonsense And I wouldnt want to see Forrest Mayorga III, the IInd one wasnt really good and we all know Forrest will use the same tactics again, he had his chance at revenge but blew it by being to carefull, lets pass to another thing.
While that may be true, remember that the fight with Vargas was basically up at super-middleweight, where Mayorga clearly was uncomfortable with the extra weight (by his own admission). And also remember that, even though Forrest may have looked damn good in beating Baldomir, it wasn't too long before that that he could barely hold off Ike Quartey, who is probably even farther past his prime than Mayorga is, and whose chin/stamina has been every bit as suspect (if not moreso) in recent fights as Mayorga's has.
But seriously, remember the Hearns-Barkley fights? Or any of Wlad Klitschko's losses? Or pretty much every fight Gene Fullmer ever won? :: It's not really that uncommon at all. When it happens, it usually reflects some kind of fragility (mental or physical), or succeptibility to pressure on the part of the boxer, and shortcomings like that are extremely hard (if not impossible) to overcome.
Forrest/Mayorga 3 would be as irrelevant ast Mosley/Forrest 3 There are more interesting fights that can be made with those fighters.
Agreed. I don't see Mayorga beating any of the elite level younger fighters. However he could still make it entertaining and be a nice name on a resume. I can't see any relevance whatsover in a third matchup between him and Forrest. If Vernon wins, he can avenge the losses, but what does it do for Mayorga? Mosley is on the way out, (as is Mayorga) and a matchup between him and Ricardo was heavily anticipated a few years back. I think Shane beats hims, but that makes for a crowd friendly matchup. If anything that's the fight i'd like to see.
You'd have to HATE Mayorga badly to want to see him in there against Pavlik. I'd like to see Mayorga back at 147 against somebody like Kermit Cintron. I think that would be a good fight for Mayorga and a winnable one at that. Margarito is another good fight for him. Don't think he'd beat Cotto, Mayweather, or Williams, though.
Forrest just has a hard time standing his ground. And that's what makes him so susceptible to guys like Quartey and Mayorga - his need to back up all the time, even going straight back, and trying to duck under long right hands. Doesn't work against Mayorga. Mayorga you have to take the fight from him. Go after him and pressure him. There's no physical reason Forrest couldn't accomplish this, but in his mind it just seems like it's hard for him to pull off. He wants to back up and get out of the way. And it doesn't work. You really have to stand in with Mayorga and take his shots on the gloves and then counter him. Mayorga doesn't really mind when you lead. He can handle almost any shot he knows is coming. It's when you start to mix it up with him, and get there before he does, or when he's not expecting it that he starts to doubt himself and lose confidence. That's what Forrest would have to do to win. It's ironic because so many say Forrest made the mistake of trading with Mayorga in the first fight and that's why he lost. But it was during this period of the fight that he was putting hurt on Mayorga and winning the fight (albeit with some scary moments). It was after the 2nd or 3rd round when he'd settled down and elected to try to "box" Mayorga by backing up that he got hit with a sledge hammer against the ropes and couldn't recover. The rematch, btw, was a super entertaining fight whomever you thought win. That, and the chance for Forrest to redeem himself is about the only reason I can see for a third fight. But from Mayorga's POV? Why the hell would he want that fight?
Yeah, Baldy had the full repertoire on display against Perez the other night :: I can't stand Mayorga, but I really don't see any way Baldomir beats him. Unless perhaps Mayorga can never again make 147 - though the way he's looked in his last two fights, I'd have to seriously ask the same about Baldy. Even still, I don't see any reason why Mayorga would struggle against him.
I agree, Forrest can't draw flies and he is a very boring fighter as well. I'd love to see Mayorga vs. Mosley, or vs. Cotto. Mayweather would be a wild fight, as long as Mayorga lasts that is, it would be entertaining, nonetheless.
Whoever suggested Pavlik-Mayorga is a sadist. Mayorga may actually get killed in that one. Forrest should beat Mayorga this time out and could actually stop him. I tend to agree with UGTBK on the first two Forrest-Mayorga fights. I did think that the stoppage was a little premature...and that the rematch could have been scored for Vernon. I agree that Mayorga-Baldomir is a good fight...but it is also meaningless. I want to see Mayorga-Mosley the most! :bears:
Yes he will. Since you have proven that you can't pick a winner for beans, why do you think your opinion on a matchup means anything? :tease: Floyd will tattoo that ass, mercilessly, all night long. It will be from culmulative punishment that Mayo is stopped.
FLOYD might TATTOOO MAYORGA ALL 12 ROUNDS..but will NOT KO HIM..not even close..he won't even score a knockdown....MAYORGA won't be Gatti coming into the fight to "oubox" Mayweather..::..he will be swinging like a wild man...and will be much bigger than Mayweather. are you high?...
well, you also thought Taylor would stop Pavlik, and that PBF would stop ODH. and i'm guessing you also predicted that PBF would stop Baldomir too. my record isn't too much worse than yours when you consider how wrong you are even when y our picks are right. you've over-estimated PBF's ability to stop fighters for a long time now. so on the contrary, it is your opinion on this matter that is utterly without merit and completely undeserving of even the slightest consideration.
Can Mayorga still make 147-154...? :dunno: I prefer.. Margarito vs. Mayorga Cintron vs. Mayorga Mosley vs. Mayorga anyone vs. Mayorga..other than FORREST...:shit:
Mayorga doesn't have the stamina anymore that he did at one time. His swinging like a wild man is precisely the reason why he wont last. He'll be hitting nothing but air all night long which will tire him further and Floyd's connect percentage against him may be in the high 70s. :: Floyd's bodyshots with further slow him down and just the pin point accurate head punches will wear him down. Mayorga will be in a world of hurt against The Floydster!
Taylor almost stopped Pavlik...so no shame in that prediction. I belive that Floyd would have stopped Baldimir if he hadn't injured his hand..which prompted him to stop battering him the way he was up to that point...so no shame in that prediction. Oscar? Good point. :: However...let's not even discuss you recent string of predictions...quite embarrasing actually. ::
Mayorga stamina has never been great..he does good for the first 4-6 rounds then starts to slow down..but he is still aggressive enough in the late rounds. Against Mayorga MONEY MAYWEATHER will be fighting someone that is bigger, stronger, plain BETTER than BUMDOMIR....and we know Mayweather didn't go into BEAST MODE against BUMDOMIR..like he did against Gatti...and might do against Hatton. Mayweather will be too defensive early..to stop Mayorga. DLH fucked up Mayorga because he was being aggressive from teh start with him, he wasn't back off when Mayorga was swinging with him in the first round..he wasn't trying to play defense like Mayweather would do...
Floyd Mayweather hurt his hand in that fight?? Why is it everytime he looks less than spectacular...its always because of some injury.....
Fair enough. IF FLoyd fights a purely defensive fight then sure, Mayorga lasts the distance. But I get he sense that Floyd will be defensive early and then once Mayorga starts to slow down and get vulnerable Floyd will be more offensive...similar to his pattern against Corrales. People forget that Floyd can be quite an agressive fighter. He's no Cory Spinks.
