I just laughed when I thought of this one,

Then I thought to add to the matter we put Holyfield doing interviews. :cheer:

Sheridan, whatever he is, isn't clueless.

I like him a lot, personally, but can understand how others might not. If I had to bet on an announcer being the biggest boxing fan, he'd be my pick and that's worth a lot, imo. A whole lot.

THE worst team is Col. Bob Sheridan... by himself.

Having ANYONE alongside him (no matter who it is) has to be an improvement, because it forces him to stop and let someone else speak now and then.

how can you say Bernstein sucks? he's the best in the game right now if you ask me - certainly the most objective, and as absurd as it sounds, he's among the few out there who watch the fight from start to finish.

Lampley, as I've said before, has a terrible habit of establishing a template in the first 3-4 rounds and not straying from it once, regardless of the actual action.

No doubt that he truly loves boxing, that I'll never question of him.

But my biggest beef with him is that there's a huge difference between remaining overly optimistic and flat out lying. Sheridan calls fights as if people are only listening to him and not actually watching the fight.

Take Mayorga-Vargas, for example - he constantly referred to the attendance as "a sold-out crowd, or certainly close to it" when in fact it barely drew 10,000. Last I checked, the arena holds twice as many people. Not exactly a sold out event. Just a sell-out announcer.

I can't stand Lampley, especially in the past few years, but hearing Sheridan enough makes you appreciate HBO broadcasts just a little bit more. Just a little.

disagREED. Max has always been agenda-driven, but I liked him a lot more when he was doing the studio gig @ ESPN2. He was far more in his element over there.

At HBO, he calls every fight the same way, pushes the same agendas (this is a good fight, but NOT for the welterweight championship, blah blah blah), and doesn't really connect with any of his broadcast partners. I like him alongside Bob Papa, but just about any announcer does a good-to-great job when partnered up w/ Papa.

    Is that consistent?

'Cause I had a similar reaction to mikE....I've always thought Bob Sheridan was pretty good in terms of his content - i.e.; what he was seeing and how he was calling the fight.

Now his delivery - HOW he is saying it - can sometimes be irritating as he can exaggerate and you want him to tone it down after a while.

    Peace.

I don't know - when I hear him, it reminds me of the Showtime broadcasts in the early/mid-90's, where you always knew who was buttering their bread (in both cases, King).

Maybe it's just the past few years, and he was a lot better once upon a time. But I honestly can't remember the last Col. Bob-featured broadcast that I could stomach for very long. And oddly enough, it has little to do with his delivery, which doesn't bug me all that much
