Sheesh, I saw this thread yesterday and didn't post because I felt Appreciation threads should be limited to said subject's fans. Guess others didn't feel the need to follow my lead on that one.

Let the fans have their day - or at least their thread. Plenty of other cyber opportunities to trash Fernando. No need to piss on the man's last parade.

    Thank you.

I don't care if people don't think Vargas beat Wright or his career wasn't very good. That isn't the point of this thread.

Boxing is one of the toughest sports out there. Fernando had alot of tough fights out there and pretty much ruined his health to boxing. So for that i thank Fernando for the great fights he had throughout his career.

I told you Nando had shown signs of decline prior to his fight with Trinidad?

I don't think that was me. You may have that confused with when we were talking about De La Hoya at 154 lbs.?

Anyway....this is not the thread or time to be trashing Fernando, and people that dislike him should simply not post.

At the end of the day he gave us some absolutely classic fights against the best PxP fighters of his generation - Trinidad-Vargas; DLH-Vargas; Vargas-Wright (which I appreciate and score a draw) - and was always willing to go out on his shield.

For what he did in the ring, he should certainly be appreciated.

    Peace.

Are you implying I bashed Vargus? :nono: I will assume not because there is nothing in my post that is a bashing. A eulogy loses its impetus if it is insincere. I made a point of saying that Vargus soared with the Eagles, but one also has to be honest and understand that he looked like he could have gone a lot farther.

Vargas IMO is a borderline ... He has a victory over Winky , a victory over Quartey , and a few other decent fights. He fought just about even with both a prime Trinidad and Delahoya up until the very end. Even being shot , he was just about even with Mosely in the first fight ..
He is just one of those guys ...

I wonder whats really wrong with him ... He has been shot since atleast 27 years old ... I wonder if he has any health problems. I know he has "the fat gene" in him and has been battling that for years.
I also think Vargas has a bit of the "Mike Tyson syndrome" in that he causes many of his own problems because of his general outlook on things...
It's going to be sad when we see him in a few years watching the fights and weighing near 300 pounds ..

Outta that list the only ones you can make a case for Tito beating are Duran, Benitez, and Hearns(although I wouldnt favor him over any of them). Leonard, Robinson, and Hagler woulda beaten the shit outta Tito and anyone who thinks otherwise should be banned immediately.

I hate to have to step in again and correct a bad take.

Fernando Vargas is a piece of shit. His legacy is as much about being a sore loser, who fouls at every turn, who spit on a guy after knocking him down, as it is about him being overrated for two close fight "wins" over two guys who either lost the biggest fights they had (quartey) or a guy who wallowed in obscurity until feasting on an undersized Mosley before getting recognition (years later).

Its the same as Corrales. He died doing 100 on a motorcycle legally plastered and its "sad" that he died? He could've killed someone with that behavior, he threw his pregnant wife down the stairs, and despite his well mannered-ness, he clearly did loads of despicable things.

Vargas' style was entertaining, but making good fights does not excuse a lifetime of crappy behavior and an attitude of dickness.

He talked worlds of shit, and he's from fucking oxnard. He relished in beating the shit out of his dad in sparring, he's just a guy with unresolved issues, and has never shown the slightest bit of class outside the ring.

    What is there to appreciate?

    This was my quote:

"At the end of the day he gave us some absolutely classic fights against the best PxP fighters of his generation - Trinidad-Vargas; DLH-Vargas; Vargas-Wright (which I appreciate and score a draw) - and was always willing to go out on his shield."

That's all I said. No more, no less.

    @ "dickness."

If you don't appreciate anything at all - then simply don't post in the thread.

I hear you though - I've never liked his attitude at ALL outside the ring, or his personality.

    Peace.

All the great fights he had.
In the ring fighting is all that matters. Nando had alot of great fights.

agREED. As much as I disliked Vargas, he managed to entertain in almost all of his fights (save for a rough patch in the period post-DLH/pre-Shane I)

How is Nando going to stop Floyd when

    1. He'll hardly land a glove on him
    2. Floyd's got a great chin
    3. Nando doesn't hit as hard or as fast as Oscar
    4. Nando couldn't stop Quartey, who was dropped twice by Oscar, who couldn't hurt Floyd

    Based on WHAT???WHAT????WHAT????WHAT????

Peeps Get Waaaaaaaaay Toooooooo Caught Up In "Attitude" these Days:rolleyes: ...As if ANYBODY is THE SAME Person 100% of the Time...

Vargas was an ANGRY Young Man who MADE a Life for Himself Due to Boxing...Instead of Becoming Another Statistic in Jail, he's FINANCIALLY SECURE B 4 the Age of 30...

For those of U Harping on his "Attitude", How about his "Attitude" after Beating Yori Boy Campas???:dunno: ...Dude was WEEPING like a Newborn Fucking Baby...He COULDN'T Hide his Joy or just how MUCH Winning a World Title MEANT to him...

1 of the More TOUCHING Moments U'll EVER See in a Boxing Ring...

Same for Vargas' Behavior Towards his Children...Vargas has Spoken OPENLY About Turning the BITTERNESS he Felt Towards his Father into a POSITIVE in how he Treats his OWN Children...

REED's Point is, Fernando WASN'T the Person Some of Ya'll R Describing him to B, 100% of the Time...Find a Fighter w/the "Right Attitude" & REED GUARANTEES he can Nitpick, just like ya'll R Doing...

Fernando Vargas is 1 of REED's Favorite Fighters of All-Times Because he SPOKE his Mind & BACKED IT UP in the Ring, even in Losing...He was GENUINE...A SKILLFUL Boxer-Puncher w/as Much HEART as ANY Fighter EVER...

Enjoy Retirement, Ferocious!!!...See ya in Canastota...

The only way he gets in is if he buys a ticket with Gatti.

Just think...if none of these guys "come back" in five years the induction ceremoney will be...

    Morales
    Mosley
    Barrera

Seeing that those three are on the ballot, there's NO WAY Gatti or Vargas should be in the running...especially in the first year.
