Even though they attached a by-line, I'm almost positive FightNews jacked that story from BoxingScene. We ran that story at least a day earlier, though it's possible another writer got the same quotes out of Donaire. As far as Shaw - the odd thing is, he's hardly been a player in 2007, yet it's quite possible come year-end awards time, he'll have promoted the Fight (Vazquez-Marquez II), Knockout (Donaire-Darchinyan) and Round (Kirkland-Conyers) of the Year. Of course you can make cases for other events winning such honors, but the fact that he has top contenders in each (and Donaire-Darchinyan is a contender for Upset of the Year as well) is amazing considering his 2007 was otherwise disastrous.
I met the kid after the fight. His hand was definitely swollen and his girl was yelling at him, telling him that they had to go. Now I know why. Definitely seemed like a nice kid, but a bit shy and reserved (or maybe cause he was in a hurry) Either way I'm definitely rooting for this kid to make it big.
i'm sure Shaw is just a cheap bstrd like every other boxing promoter. he's just a little more miserable looking than the rest of them. and his son looks like a punk.
I hate Gary Shaw. I was drunk at a fight card in Sacramento and going to the ring to yell at him but the security sent me back. I hope to one day see Ron Borges at a fight while I'm drunk.
