Williams-Quintana in the works! WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams (33-0, 24 KOs) appears headed toward a February 2nd title defense against Carlos Quintana (24-1, 19 KOs). The bout isn't signed, but the Quintana camp has agreed to the terms offered. The bout would take place on the big Goossen-Tutor card slated to take place at the Beausejour Cricket Ground on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. Williams was originally slated to face IBF champion Kermit Cintron, however Cintron suffered a hand injury in his last bout that will keep him out of action until March. So I guess he's not fighting Zab anymore?:dunno:
This chain of events is funny. Cintron bowed out because he's waiting for his hand injury to heal. Zab passed on the fight for the same reason (apparently injured it in a tuneup last month)... yet was going to accept a fight w/ Quintana for 2 weeks later. Now Quintana is passing on a Zab fight to face Williams two weeks earlier. Cintron-Zab, anyone? Say, whenever their hands heal? (which should be soon, now that Williams has an opponent :: )
It is obvious that Cintron wants nothing to do with Williams (or a Margarito rematch I imagine). I thought that as SOON as Cintron hit the canvas after his war with Feliciano. He was waaaaay over-selling a bruised hand injury. The kid has very little confidence. He will lose to the next top level fighter that can take his punches early in the fight.
I cant stand Cintron, but I actually give him a shot in beating Williams. I think Williams throws too many punches and will give Cintron opportunities to land a BOMB..too bad for Cintron if he's ducking Williams.
