From the Nevada State Athletic commission boxing regulations:

NAC 467.675 Acts constituting fouls in boxing. (NRS 467.030) The following acts constitute fouls in boxing:

    1. Hitting below the belt.

    2. Hitting an opponent who is down or is getting up after being down.

    3. Holding an opponent with one hand and hitting with the other.

    4. Holding or deliberately maintaining a clinch.

    5. Wrestling or kicking.

    6. If the referee has signaled that the opponent has been knocked out, striking an opponent who is helpless as a result of previous blows and so supported by the ropes that he does not fall.

    7. Butting with the head or shoulder or using the knee.

    8. Hitting with the open glove, the butt of the hand, the wrist or the elbow, and all backhand blows.

    9. Purposely going down without being hit.

    10. Striking deliberately at that part of the body over the kidneys.

    11. Deliberately using the rabbit punch.

    12. Jabbing the opponent?s eyes with the thumb of the glove.

    13. Using abusive language in the ring.

    14. Engaging in any unsportsmanlike trick or action which causes injury to an opponent.

    15. Hitting on the break.

    16. Hitting after the bell has sounded the end of the period of unarmed combat.

    17. Hitting an opponent whose head is between and outside of the ropes.

    18. Pushing an opponent about the ring or into the ropes.

So it's up to Cortez to take points for holding. Question is will he do it.

    NO way in hell.

Watch for FLOYD to be warned for elbows and pushing off the clinch.

Since when are elbows and pushing in the rules? Let me more explicit. You can't use your elbow to separate your opponent while on the inside. You can duck under punches while on the ropes but you can't duck and PUSH your opponent off to avoid an inside fight on the way up.

I think if Cortez stays behind his jab and moves well, he will TKO Hatton, not DQ him

hatton was sloppy as hit in that fight -he landed the good left hook, but aside from that was was reaching like a slop monster and looked like an amateur winning the fight with illegal tactics that castillo was slowly learning to deal with.

    That's your problem right there.

Maybe after this bout you can come and whine how Hatton knocked PBF out with a wrong punch, a right hand instead of left :notallthere:

LOL at those who are acting like Cortez isn't a shitty ass ref or that Hatton isn't a fucking clinch monster.

Listen I like Hatton and he's definately a more likable guy then Floyd but to pretend that the choice of Cortez doesn't help Hatton a bit is ridiculous.

This is the same ref who helped make John Ruiz the force in the Heavyweight division that he became and convinced a slew of other fighters to pursue the same tactic because it's easier to accumulate points if you are allowed to throw a couple of your own punches coming in and immediately hold the other guy and keep him from throwing back.

It's strange that one referee's interpretation leads to points off and possibly a disqualification and yet the next man let's it all go.Maybe the rules need to be clarified and all the ref's spoken to to uniform them. The ref shouldn't be an influence on the way the fight goes.

are you kidding? all he did was hold and hit. for 4 rounds leading up to the kO. and it's how he beat guys like Tackie and Urango too. i'd like to see how he does if the rules are enforced.

I'm not sure if it's a pussy tactic but it sure makes it hard to watch from a fans perspective.

I'd watch more MMA if I wanted to see that.

Urango yes I agree that was a shit fight to watch my heart bleeds for anyone that spend their money on that crap but I didn't think he was that bad in the Castillio fight.Don't get me wrong I agree that he does hold too much which only seems to have developed in the latter part of his career.

yeah - later in his career when he stepped up his competition. that's the disconcerting part - it's a clear indication of "why" he clinches so much - because he can't cope otherwise.

what's not objective about it? just because it's not positive doesn't make it not objective you know.

I don't disagree , I can't it was alarming to see that much holding in the Urango fight and even worse to hear Billy Graham encouraging him to do it even more just to get through the fight.I know there have been excuses that he had a cold before and was not 100% fit I guess we'll find out later if he can cope.I full expect lots of booing if he holds as much as the Urango fight from the spectators.

well let's hope cortez DOES do his job, and it doesn't come to boos. and by do his job, i do NOT mean break every clinch and restart either - that's unfair too.
