Corley wobbled Floyd cause Floyd was fighting too reckless and trying to stop Corley early. Against Zab he started off slow, and cautious cause he KNEW Zab had the power to hurt him if he caught him right. Its a bad analogy cause Floyd doesnt ALWAYS fight aggressive. Hatton always does cause its the only way he fights.
I don't see anyone not giving Witter a shot, just a guy making a pretty decent case for why Hatton would be the guy to pick, if they fought. I don't have much of a care for either guy, but I don't see why anyone would think Witter WOULD beat Hatton. Anyone can be beaten, but thats not the same thing as believing they will do it.
If they fought Hatton would the favorite, and rightfully so. But a Witter upset wouldnt shock me at all, especially at this point. Had they fought a few years back I woulda picked Hatton w/o hesitation.
So I'll say it again (my original point)... I would pick Hatton to beat Witter at 140, or Diaz moving up to 140 as well.
Well, since that time Witter's gotten better. Quite a good bit better actually. Hatton's been spending time in tough, hard fights and mybe it's taking it's toll on him. I've been saying for a while now that I think Hatton has slipped over the past few years. Like you said before, he's a guy who fights with a young mans style and rarely do fighters of his ilks hang about long...and when they crash, they tend to crash hard and fast. Still, Hatton would have to be really badly broken down to be beaten by Witter. Junior is still the kind of guy who can be half beaten before the touch of gloves to get underway.
At least we can agree on the part about Hatton's style. Guys who fight with that kinda ferocity, and intense pressure fighting style such as Hatton dont age well. The proof is in guys like Fenech, and McGugian. Hell even the great Pryor burnt out fast(but drugs contributed to that). The only one w/that kinda style who was able to have a long prime was Duran, but Duran was a freak and had skills to fall back on. Hatton doesnt. He'll never again be the fighter he was when he beat Tszyu.
Well he has been avoiding Witter for a long time. 140 is really a weak division. Malignaggi would probably beat Hatton though.
I'm picking Pavlik to repeat what he did and for pretty much the same reasons as to why I think Hatton wont be the same. It's just that I happen to still think that Taylor is a better fighter than Pavlik and as such has a chance to prove me wrong. So stop fucking around! :warning:
you are talking garbage. I've always said Witter would beat Hatton because I knew that Hatton can't deal with slick fighters and Witter is VERY awkward, much more than Mayweather. You have to factor in the switch hitting and the fact that he can KO with either punch. He'd have Hatton on queer street very early and it would be an early stoppage. We saw that Hatton can only fight one way, he won't be able to march forward against Witter because Witter hits much harder than mayweather and would keep him very honest.
Let's guess- Witter KO2? :: IMO, this is the ONLY fight for Hatton to logically take next, and Witter would be a very, very live dog in the fight. It is impossible to argue that Junior has improved with each year since his green, under-prepared ass ran from Zab, which Hatton does appear to be slowly declining from his peak in 2005. I'd STILL take Hatton to beat Junior, though, and with Attraction nuthugging him all the way to his being carted off on a stretcher, it would be a very, very annoying time on these boards... MTF
Dsimon I KNOW that it future you'll pick with me! I've told you manytimes that I'm the best prognostigator on fightbeat (honorable mention to REED) and so stick with me in future!
Hatton may or may not be the same fighter but one thing is guarenteed that damn ring post that he ran into will never be the same. I'll Holla 5000
dsimon writes: I had a decent reason why I picked Hatton.... and inf act if you read my post I pretty much called exactly what would happen. I picked Hatton because he was the one guy of the bunch that I feel had a chance to beat Floyd. I was right that he gave Floyd some problems getting into the gap early. And I said Floyd would adjust later and he did. I felt compelled because of Hatton being the only one with a chance to give him a chance that is all. I like both guys and as it turned out Floyd showed an extra dimension by how fast and well he adjusted. So, while I ate my crow, there were some extenuating circumstances with this pick.
Seriously, I'd like to see a fight with Hatton vs either Malinaggi or Witter, because he's shown that he can be the type of guy to bring out the best in movers. I just don't think that those two guys have the necessary PATIENCE to win a fight with Hatton. Once the fight is a grapplefest, I doubt they'd have enough separation or inside work to still win the rounds clear enough.
