Accoriding to BT, Diaz signed the contract. The fight appears to be on for Feb 9th. The week before Pavlik-Taylor II btw.

What a year 2008 is gonna be!:bears: :bears: :bears:

This isnt a fight that gets me that excited. Old man Hopkins will stink it out as he always does in recent years.

Had Hopkins & Joe fought in 02, THEN it would be a superfight which interests me.

I saw Juan Friday at Savannah's, and we had a hell of a laugh talking about Katsidis' manager wanting Diaz to give him 200 Grand out of his own purse, and then asking for a 50/50 split as well.
I told him "Hell, I was just gonna ask you for a hundred grand."
You are gonna see a real job done on Katsidis here, a real lesson and a complete drubbing done on him.
Katsidis is gonna think he's being hit by four hands in there.

I hope Katsidis beats the shit outta Diaz!

Unfortunutely, I do think Juan will win, but it wont be a one sided battering. Katsidis is much stronger, tougher, and has WAY more heart than Fruity, and WHOlio.

Katsidis by TKO in the 3rd. :eeeek:

it's not like I have much credibility in picking fights, so what the hell.

He's not underestimating the guy at all, and paid Katsidis some compliments as a strong and hard punching guy.
He is already hard at work doing an hour on the stairmaster and weights on Friday, which is a light day at the gym, and had already swam that morning as well.
He knows he is in for a helluva fight from Katsidis.

    We can always dream.

Diaz will be too good for him in the long run. Much as I despise Juan, he's by far the best at 135 right now and I cant see any lightweight beating him.

Hopefully after he beats Katsidis, we'll get to see Hatton-Diaz one day.

Why do you despise Diaz? Just because of Karl or?

This is gonna be an incredible fight. If Pac and Valero or Cotto and Margarito don't fight next year i think this will be FOTY.

I'm with Karl here, I think Diaz will dominate but I think Kastidis will make it interesting because of his sheer agressiveness and toughness. Maybe he has a shot at knocking Diaz out, but if Diaz take his best punches well, I think it will be a one sided exciting fight (Some close rounds but Diaz will win almost all of them because of his volume punching).

I'm just waiting till Xplosive matches the loser with Roberto Duran and Aaron Pryor in Mythical Matchup's, five minutes after the fight.

I think Guzman should move up to light-weight and fight Diaz - he has the style to beat him I think. And in his last fight, at 130, he came in weighing like 147 or some shit.

msybe, but Soto.Diaz would be much more fun. :blobbox:

still i can't recall Diaz ever fighting another guy, who like himself prefers to fight in close. it could be a new challenge for Diaz, and not one he's necessarily proven himself at. Katsidis, even more so than Diaz, likes to get real close before he unloads. that could be a key to dealing with Diaz's work-rate - could be a matter of crowding or suffocating Diaz.

i wouldn't wanna see Soto have to wear 10 oz gloves though - he relies on his KO punch way too much. assuming this fight is in Vegas, forget it. with 8 oz gloves though i wouldn't dismiss Soto's chances. he's a big enough guy, even @135.

Whether you like Diaz or not, you guys are going to like this fight, I can tell you that much.
I had a talk with him and his people, and it will be very interesting to watch.
I can't elaborate anymore than that as far as their strategy for this fight goes, but be sure to tune in for a good one.

in other words, he plans to "box" and counter-punch?

Katsidis is the new Gatti, so ask yourself what did elite fighters do to Gatti and you have your answer, what this will look like.

you're saying that only because he's white and has showed some weakness as far as his skin. but stylistically he's very different than gatti. very. and looks to be stronger than gatti ever was. and he's certainly not a guy who is gonna box you the way gatti did early in his career.

Cool. That means Diaz will have battered a stronger guy than Gatti ever was. I like the sound of that. :bears:

There are things I don't like about Juan...crying after the close win, pudgy, going to college while being a pro boxer, no punch, beating a couple of my favs in Sim and Freitas..

    but

the guy excels at probably the most important factor...he doesn't duck. I had big doubts that he would fight Katsidis. I figured he would go after a bigger money bout...and while I don't hold that against a guy, especially if he comes back for mandatories...I prefer a guy to keep his belts.

No I´m saying it, because he is one of the most entertaining fighters around, blood, guts and power, but Diaz will still take him apart in easy fashion. Katsidis hasn´t really done anything impressive from a boxing standpoint. Who are Earl and Amonsot? Guys that were knocked out in the first round by Amir Khan and some dude named Butar Butar. :dunno:

Love the fight, and Katsidis will bring it as long as he can, but by round four he´ll have lost half his blood.
